The Astros released Richard Hidalgo on Saturday, according to the AP. The Astros offered him a minor league assignment, but he declined, saying he wanted to pursue another major league opportunity. Hidalgo was battling Luke Scott and Jason Lane for the starting right field job.

Richard Hidalgo is just 4-for-27 this spring and appears to be trailing Luke Scott and Jason Lane in the battle for Houston's right field spot. Hidalgo signed a minor-league deal with the Astros two months ago, and he's definitely not guaranteed anything when the team breaks camp.

The Astros agreed to a minor league deal with Richard Hidalgo on Friday, according to the AP. Hidalgo, who is currently playing for Magallanes in Venezuela's winter league, did not see any time in the big leagues in 2006.
