Our View:It remains to be seen where Renteria bats in the Giants' weak lineup, but he is coming of one of the worst seasons of his career.
December 4, 2008 The Giants have officially inked Edgar Renteria to a two-year deal for $18.5 million, according to FOX Sports.
Our View:The 33-year-old will replace Omar Vizquel at shortstop, with Emmanuel Burriss moving over to second. The Cardinals were interested in bringing back Renteria, but opted for Khalil Greene instead. Renteria was not offered arbitration by the Tigers, so the Giants do not lose draft picks by signing him.

Our View:Renteria is 33 years of age and hit .270/.317/.382 last year with Detroit and is obviously on the decline, so the price tag seems excessive if the numbers are correct, but the Giants certainly need to address their shortstop situation.
