The Reds have selected first baseman Yonder Alonso with the seventh overall pick in today's draft, according to MLB.com.

Our View:He is a left-handed power hitter out of the University of Miami, and is batting .370 with 21 home runs and 66 RBI over 58 games for the Hurricanes.
June 5, 2008
Scott Hatteberg, who was designated for assignment by the Reds last week, is now a free agent, according to the Providence Journal.

Our View:The vet should find work on another club's bench. The Mets were previously believed to be interested in him.
May 29, 2008
The Mets may pursue aging vet Scott Hatteberg, according to MLB.com. Hatteberg was designated for assignment by the Reds on Tuesday, and could be added to the Mets (if he clears waivers) if left-handed pinch-hitter Marlon Anderson needs an extended assignment to the DL.

Our View:Hatteberg was only hitting .173 over 52 at-bats with the Reds, and would hold no fantasy value if he joined the Mets.
May 27, 2008
Veteran infielder Scott Hatteberg has been designated for assignment, according to the AP. The team called up top prospect Jay Bruce from Triple-A, and Hatteberg was viewed as the most expendable to free up a roster spot.

Our View:Hatteberg was only hitting .173 over 52 at-bats this season, and lost his starting job at first base to Joey Votto. He held no fantasy value prior to his designation.
May 27, 2008
Struggling infielder Scott Hatteberg could be designated for assigment, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer.

Our View:He is only hitting .173 over 52 at-bats, and has lost his job at first base to Joey Votto. The team needs to make room on the roster for Jay Bruce, and Hatteberg looks to be expendable.
