June 20, 2008 The Indians have picked up catcher Sal Fasano from the Braves for a player to be named, according to Fox Sports. Assistant GM John Mirabelli said, "This was an opportunity for us to bring in a quality, veteran guy to help complement our current catching situation. Here is a guy that has a lot of experience, and is a very good receiver." To make room on the roster, the team designated Yamid Haad for assignment.
Our View:The 36-year-old Fasano was hitting .193 with two home runs and nine RBI over 26 games with Atlanta's Triple-A Richmond affiliate. Kelly Shoppach will continue to handle most of the catching duties while Victor Martinez recovers from right elbow surgery, and Fasano does not merit fantasy consideration.
