Newsbreakers
January 6, 2009
Braden Looper is on the Dodgers' radar, according to Tim Brown of Yahoo! Sports.

Our View:The club also still likes Randy Wolf and Jon Garland. The rotation needs to replace Brad Penny and likely Derek Lowe.
December 31, 2008
The Orioles remain interested in pitcher Braden Looper, according to the Baltimore Sun.

Our View:Looper covets a three-year deal worth around $7 million or $8 million per year, and his price tag would have to come down for the Orioles to ink him.
December 23, 2008
Talks between Brewers GM Doug Melvin and free agent pitcher Braden Looper have not risen to a serious level, according to the Brewers' official site.

Our View:The Brewers are still trying to replace CC Sabathia who signed with the Yankees and Ben Sheets who declined their arbitration offer, so they have two holes to fill in their rotation.
December 21, 2008
General manager Doug Melvin denies reports that the Brewers are close to signing free agent pitcher Braden Looper, but he does concede that the club is interested. "I talked to his agent a few days ago but I haven't done anything over the weekend," Melvin tells the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. "I'll probably make another call in the next day or two."

Our View:The Brewers are in need of starting hurlers after losing CC Sabathia to free agency and seemingly not being interested in re-signing Ben Sheets. Melvin is a man, so calling in "the next day or two" really means four or five days. Are we right, ladies?
December 21, 2008
Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports indicates that the Orioles are making a strong run at free agent hurler Braden Looper.

Our View:The Orioles better hurry, as it was previously speculated that Looper is close to signing with the Brewers. The Orioles are pursuing Tim Redding as well, in case they cannot reel in Looper.
