April 7, 2008 Scott Spiezio was sentenced to three months probation after pleading guilty to charges on Monday, ESPN.com reports. He faced charges of assault, battery, driving under the influence, and assault with a deadly weapon stemming from a car crash on December 30. Spiezio will also pay a $390 fine, participate in AA and an alcohol program, perform 80 hours of community service, pay an undisclosed amount to a fund, and now play for the Orioles. Okay, so we made that last part up.

February 27, 2008 An arrest warrant has been issued by the Irvine, California police department for Scott Spiezio on six charges stemming from a car crash in December. The warrant alleges driving under influence, driving under the influence with a blood alcohol content of .08 percent or more, hit and run, aggravated assault, assault and battery, according to the AP. Spiezio allegedly left his BMW at 12:20 a.m. on Dec. 30 after crashing into a curb and fence, ran home to his condo, vomited and then assaulted his neighbor, causing significant injuries. The veteran missed more than a month last year while seeking help for substance abuse. Even if Spiezio is acquitted, it's possible his time with the Cardinals, and perhaps in baseball altogether, is over. Stay away from him in all fantasy formats.
