Newsbreakers
October 31, 2008
Fernando Tatis has agreed to a one-year deal with the Mets worth $1.7 million, according to the SF Chronicle.

Our View:The 33-year-old outfielder hit .297 with 11 homers over 92 games with the Mets in 2008, and will provide favorable depth in 2009.

MLB.com reports that Fernando Tatis is fully recovered from the right shoulder separation he suffered September 16 and is playing for the Estrellas team in the Dominican Winter League. Tatis has six RBIs and a .500 average in 18 at-bats and is playing third base.

Our View:Earlier in the day it was announced that Tatis was given the 2008 Players Choice Award for Comeback Player of the National League. It still may be a stretch to assume he will be an everyday starter next season. In 92 games this year, Tatis hit .297, with 11 home runs and 47 RBI.

Fernando Tatis was given the 2008 Players Choice Award for Comeback Player of the National League, according to Newsday.com.

Our View:Tatis hit .297, with 11 home runs and 47 RBI, before going down with a separated right shoulder in mid-September.
October 17, 2008
Fernando Tatis is one of three finalists for the NL Comeback Player of the Year award, according to the NY Post. The other finalists are Jorge Cantu and Kerry Wood.

Our View:Tatis hit .297-11-47 in just 273 AB this season and certainly did come back from the dead this season having had all of 56 major league at-bats from 2004-2007. If this is an award for a guy who came back from the dead, Tatis should be the victor.
September 17, 2008
Fernando Tatis' injured shoulder is maybe not as bad as first expected. Tatis is said to have a Grade 3 separation of his right shoulder. With this news the Mets doctors are going to hold off on surgery and Tatis might be able to resume baseball activities in two or three weeks, according to the New York Post.

Our View:Even though the Tatis will not have surgery right away, it will be a surprise if he comes back in 2008.
