Newsbreakers
October 3, 2008
MLB.com reports that the Marlins and third baseman Wes Helms agreed to terms on a two-year, $1.9 million contract. He joins Hanley Ramirez as the only two Marlins under multi-year deals.

Our View:The 32-year-old, batted .243 with five home runs and 31 RBIs in 132 games this past year. He projects to provide veteran leadership while being a spot player at either third base or first base and does not have much fantasy value as of now. With Jorge Cantu heading towards arbitration, Helms could find himself starting at third next season.
May 17, 2008
Wes Helms hit a three-run, pinch-hit homer and the Florida Marlins beat the Kansas City Royals 7-3 snapping a season-high four-game losing streak.

Our View:Helms has played in 34 games this year, but has only 71 at-bats. In those plate appearances Helms has 13 RBI, seven runs scored and is hitting .225.
May 15, 2008
Wes Helms escaped serious injury when he was struck by a fastball just above his elbow on Wednesday, according to MLB.com. "It hurts," Helms said. "But I'm fine. It's not going to alter my swing."

Our View:With Mike Jacobs hurt, he hopes to return by the weekend, the team could certainly use the bat of Helms in it's lineup. Unless Jacobs is out long-term don't expect Helms to be much more than a corner infield play in NL Only leagues.
April 6, 2008
The Phillies traded Wes Helms to the Florida Marlins on Sunday for cash, this according to Delaware Online. Jorge Cantu, who is currently the starting third baseman for the Fish, will likely lose some at-bats with Helms entering the picture.
April 2, 2008
Wes Helms has been released by the Phillies, according to MLB.com. The team designated him for assignment, and he has 10 days to shed his contract. Helms is owed $2.9 million this season, $2.15 million in salary, and another $750,000 in a buyout. After 10 days, any team can sign Helms for the Major League minimum of $390,000. Helms has been pushed out of the mix by new addition Pedro Feliz, and the team tried all Spring Training to deal Helms to another team.
