December 31, 2008
MLB.com reports that Miguel Tejada plans on rejoining his Dominican Winter League team as early as Friday.

Our View:Just last month, Tejada stated that he would forgo participating in winter ball with his national team in favor of preparing for the 2009 MLB season.
December 16, 2008
Miguel Tejada is under investigation by the FBI for possible perjury after stating to the US Attorney's Office he had not used steroids, according to Sports Illustrated.

Our View:The Mitchell Report states that former teammate Adam Piatt provided checks signed by Tejada for what Piatt said was a steroid purchase. The investigation is ongoing.
December 9, 2008
One GM told Yahoo Sports that the Astros are pushing Miguel Tejada hard.

Our View:The problem for Houston is that 13 home runs and 66 RBI in 158 games isn't worth nearly the $13 million that a team would have to pay Tejada.
December 8, 2008
Along with their AL Central brethren in Minnesota, the Cleveland Indians are interested in Astros shortstop Miguel Tejada, according to Yahoo! Sports.

Our View:Of course, some things that may be difficult are the fact that the Indians already have a productive shortstop in Jhonny Peralta, and, of course, Tejada's $13 million salary.
December 8, 2008
The Minnesota Twins and Houston Astros have spoken about shortstop Miguel Tejada, according to the St. Paul Pioneer Press.

Our View:The Astros have let it be known that they are willing to move Tejada, mostly because of his large salary. The Twins are in need of a shortstop, but Tejada's $13 million price tag may be too much for them.
December 8, 2008
The Astros are still willing to deal Miguel Tejada, who is guaranteed $13 million in 2009, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports.

Our View:The Giants, Angels, Twins, and Dodgers are among the clubs that could have interest in the elite shortstop.
November 16, 2008
The Astros are anxious to dump salary, and they would like to move Miguel Tejada or Jose Valverde, as well as Carlos Lee if he would waive his no-trade clause, the Boston Globe reports.

Our View:Tejada is aging not so gracefully, but there still should be interest in the shortstop around the league.
September 21, 2008
Miguel Tejada had three hits, two runs scored and one RBI for the Astros on Sunday in their victory over the Pirates.

Our View:Tejada, shockingly, has only 65 RBI on the year, and it's not like his 13 home runs are anything to write home about either. Tejada has walked only 23 times on the year leading to an OBP that doesn't even break the .320 barrier.
September 14, 2008
Miguel Tejada went 0-for-3 on Sunday night in the Carlos Zambrano no-hitter to lose his 12-game hitting streak.

Our View:Tejada hit .327 during the streak and is batting just .286 overall which would be his lowest mark since hitting .278 in 2003. Tejada is no longer a top option at the shortstop position.
September 10, 2008
Miguel Tejada hit a grand slam in the sixth inning on Wednesday night that keyed the Astros 7-4 victory over the Pirates.

Our View:Tejada certainly hasn't been at his best since a hot start to the year, but he is still batting .287 with 62 RBI and 88 runs scored. After failing to hit 20 home runs for the first time in nine seasons last year, he is once again likely to fall short with just 13 this seeason. He can still be a useful fantasy player but he is no longer a top of the mountain option at shortstop.
August 25, 2008
Miguel Tejada saw his modest six-game hitting streak come to an end as he went 0-for-4 in the Astros 9-1 beating at the hands of the Mets.

Our View:Tejada has put up decent numbers this season, but he has only hit 12 home runs on the season, and just two since June 20, which is a disappointment for fantasy owners hoping his power would increase playing in Houston.
August 20, 2008
Miguel Tejada was displeased to ride the pine Tuesday, according to the Houston Chronicle. Manager Cecil Cooper gave him an unwanted day off and Tejada said, "What can I say? I can say I don’t feel like I need a day off. That’s what I can say. If I feel like I need a day off, then I’ll feel like I need a day off."

Our View:Tejada is only hitting .217 (5-for-23) over his last six games, with no RBI over the span. He only has one home run in the month of August as well.
August 19, 2008
Astros manager Cecil Cooper went heavy on the left-handed hitters to face Brewers co-ace Ben Sheets and found that to be a perfect opportunity to give his shortstop Miguel Tejada a rest, according to MLB.com.

Our View:Cooper played Darin Erstad in left, Michael Bourn in center and Geoff Blum at shortstop. David Newhan started at second, while the red-hot Ty Wigginton moved back to his normal position at third after playing more than a week in left field.
August 2, 2008
Not many hitters hold an advantage over Johan Santana, but Astros shortstop Miguel Tejada certainly does. When Houston plays the Mets tonight, Tejada will go into the game with a .333 batting average and .438 on-base percentage against the Cy Young Award winning lefty.

Our View:In 27 at-bats, Tejada has two home runs off Santana, and has walked five times. Tejada had a cool July, hitting under .260, but maybe he will begin a hot streak tonight with a few hits off Santana.
July 29, 2008
Despite having zero chance at making the playoffs, the Astros are considering themselves buyers at the deadline, according to FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal. They have had no discussions with Boston regarding Miguel Tejada, which refutes an earlier report from ESPN.

Our View:We didn't like this fit anyway, as Jed Lowrie and Alex Cora have played respectably while Julio Lugo has been sidelined.
July 28, 2008
ESPN.com reports that the Boston Red Sox have talked to the Astros about acquiring shortstop Miguel Tejada. "I feel good in Houston, but I wouldn't be afraid to accept the challenge of playing in Boston," Tejada said during a telephone interview.

Our View:Tejada's value would go up considerably in Boston. He is known to play better in big games and the Red Sox have plenty of those ahead. He is hitting .281 with 10 home runs, 63 runs scored and 48 RBI this season.
July 26, 2008
Miguel Tejada had a four hit night as the Astros fell to the Brewers 6-4. Tejada was 4-for-4 with four singles while scoring a run.

Our View:Tejada had been in a bit of a funk and was in danger of seeing his average drop below .270, so maybe this will lead to him breaking out.
July 20, 2008
Manager Cecil Cooper noted that Miguel Tejada will be given more time off in the second half of the season, according to the Houston Chronicle. Cooper said, "The first half we probably didn't monitor it as closely as we should have."

Our View:Tejada started 93 of the Astros' first 97 games at shortstop. He started off hot, but slumped a bit in June. More time off will keep him fresher, and likely more productive over the duration of the second half, which should benefit fantasy owners during their run at the playoffs.
July 18, 2008
Shortstop Miguel Tejada went 3-for-4 with a double while scoring a run in the Astros 2-1 victory over the Cubs on Friday.

Our View:Tejada's night is good news for fantasy owners who were undoubtedly becoming impatient with his falling average. He was hitting just .159 in July, so these three hits may ignite him for the season's second half.
July 10, 2008
Miguel Tejada only came into yesterday's game against Pittsburgh as a defensive replacement in the ninth inning as the team tries to get him some rest, according to the Houston Chronicle.

Our View:After a June in which he hit just .227, Tejada was batting only .129 in July. He is too talented for fantasy owners to waive, but if possible, sitting him down until the second half of the season seems like a good idea.
July 1, 2008
Miguel Tejada was hitting .150 in the middle of June, but took a six-game hitting streak into July and wound up with a .227 average on the month.

Our View:Tejada should be fine, although his average has dropped from .345 on April 30 to .317 on May 31 to his current .291. He still remains a prominent fantasy player at the shortstop position.
June 19, 2008
Miguel Tejada, hitting just .150 in the month of June, homered in Thursday's loss to his ex-mates. Houston has lost a franchise-record six straight interleague games and is 1-8 against American League teams this year.

Our View:The home run was Tejada's fourth in June and his 10th of the season.
June 5, 2008
Miguel Tejada went 0-for-4 from the third hole in the Astros order on Thursday dropping his average down to .302.

Our View:Just 10 games ago Tejada was hitting .335, and he has been in a pretty good tailspin. His overall production is still right where you would expect it to be, other than his home run total (six) which is lagging.
May 18, 2008
Miguel Tejada had another three hits on Sunday while scoring two runs and knocking one in for the Astros.

Our View:Tejada hasn't hit a home run in 15 games, but how do you find fault with a shortstop who has 33 RBI, 34 runs and a .344 average?
May 15, 2008
Houston SS Miguel Tejada was the man of the hour for the Astros in their 6-3 win over San Francisco, going 3-for-5 at the plate including a 2-out single and two RBIs on the night.

Our View:Tejada has the batting average up to .345, though he has yet to go below .331 since the early weeks of April.
May 13, 2008
Miguel Tejada was hit with pitches on both wrists over the weekend against the Dodgers, and commented on his ailment, according to CBSsports.com. Tejada said, "I feel like I'm in handcuffs. It's OK. I'm happy for God to not see that my wrist broke this time. I got hit pretty good a couple times already. I remember last year when I broke my hand, when I got hit the first one on Saturday I was nervous because I get a bad memory from last year."

Our View:It sounds like he will be fine, and should remain in your lineups. He is hitting .340 over 39 games, with five homers, 29 RBI, and 31 runs scored.
May 8, 2008
Miguel Tejada had another two hits, along with two runs scored, as he continues to thrive in the third hole in the Astros order where he is batting .359 in 78 AB.

Our View:Tejada continues to drive the ball and there is every reason to believe last season's down turn in production was merely one of those seasons that most players have at some point. Miggy is back.
May 3, 2008
Miguel Tejada went 2-for-4 with one RBI and one run in Saturday's 6-2 win over Milwaukee.

Our View:Tejada is hitting .355 with 25 RBI and 24 runs scored over 31 games. He continues to fit in very well in Houston.
May 3, 2008
Houston SS Miguel Tejada has suffered through some rough times of his own over recent seasons, but the veteran shortstop was so moved by a meeting with 8-year-old Jacob Scott, a young boy suffering from muscular dystrophy, that he promised the boy a home run, according to the Associated Press.

Our View:Tejada made good on the promise on the sixth inning, hitting his fifth home run of the year and Houston's third consecutive home run of the inning. The Astros trailed 4-2 before Tejada's two-run homer off Carlos Villanueva, followed by a solo shots from Lance Berkman and Carlos Lee to leave the inning with a 6-4 lead. "I was so excited," said Tejada. "I know it's hard to tell someone you'll hit a home run and do it. But today when I went to lunch with this kid I wanted him to be happy. So I told him I'd do it." Tejada met the child during a visit with several Astros, all of whom were then hosted at the game as part of an effort with the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
April 29, 2008
Team-mate Lance Berkman was named the NL Player of the Week, but Miguel Tejada had a very strong week as well, according to the Houston Chronicle. Tejda hit .414 with one homer and seven RBI during the week, and Berkman commented, "Miggy is a big part of our success as a team and me personally. He creates a lot of opportunities for me by getting on base. He's a great hitter. It always helps being in there with Miggy and Carlos Lee."

Our View:Tejada has been fitting in great with his new team, as he is hitting .337 with four homers and 21 RBI over 27 games, with two stolen bases. The National League agrees with him as well.
April 22, 2008
Houston SS Miguel Tejada went 4-for-5 at the plate for the second evening in a row, helping his Astros seal a convincing 7-11 win over the San Diego Padres. Tejada hit his seventh double of the year and drove in his 17th and 18th RBIs of the season.

Our View:Tejada hadn't had a four-hit games since August of 2006, and now he has two, a hopeful sign of better days ahead.
April 21, 2008
Miguel Tejada continued his hot hitting going 4-for-5 with three RBI and three runs scored from the third spot in the order for the Astros.

Our View:Tejada is up to .342 with 16 RBI, and no matter how old he is, he is flat out ripping the ball right now.
April 17, 2008
Miguel Tejada went 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored on Thursday, hours after a story broke that he had lied about his age.

Our View:Tejada is now batting .328 with 11 RBI as he continues to be one of the better hitting shortstops in baseball, even if he is two years older than he had previously stated (he is 33).
April 17, 2008
It turns out that the rumors are true, Miguel Tejada is older than he has always stated, this according to a report on the AP. Though currently listed as 31 years old, Tejada is actually 33, a fact that goes back to when he signed his first pro contract and said he was 17 when he was really 19. “I’m a poor kid that wanted to sign,” Tejada said. “I’m feeling free now. It’s something that I had in my mind.”

Our View:Kudos for Tejada clearing that up, but did he really have to wait 14 years? Maybe this helps to explain why his range on defense has diminished so greatly the past couple of seasons; he is older than we thought. Doesn't this guy have enough problems with PED's already? If he lied about his age, what else has he lied about?
April 11, 2008
Miguel Tejada will not be punished by major league baseball for his inclusion in the Mitchell Report, this according to the AP. The new agreement worked out says that no players mentioned in the report will be punished, but that doesn't speak to the possibility that Tejada could still face an FBI investigation. Tejada has eight RBI and two home runs in his first 10 games as an Astros and he should continue to be one of the best power-hitting shortstops in baseball.
April 7, 2008
Miguel Tejada hit a walk-off homer in the bottom of the ninth inning to lead the Astros to a 5-3 victory over the Cardinals. Tejada had two hits and two RBI on the night and seems to be settling into the fifth spot in the order quite nicely as he has started to hit NL pitching like he did for so many years in the AL.
April 4, 2008
Miguel Tejada went 2-for-4 with a double, a triple, one run, and one RBI in a win over the Cubs on Friday. He is 5-for-19 on the season and three of his hits have gone for extra bases. Unfortunately, Miggy doesn't have a homer yet, but we're not too worried.
April 2, 2008
Miguel Tejada was aggressive on the bases on Monday, but was thrown out trying to stretch a single into a double, which was fine by Manager Cooper, this according to the Houston Chronicle. Cooper stated, "He should be aggressive, and I would never ever say don't be. That's the way you should play."
April 1, 2008
Miguel Tejada was solid in his debut with the Astros on Monday night, as he went 2-for-4. The Astros lost to San Diego 4-0, but he should be pleased with his initial performance.
March 23, 2008
Miguel Tejada went 2-for-3 with two RBI against Cincinnati on Saturday, and lifted his spring average to .333. He is fitting in very well with his new team so far.
March 19, 2008
Miguel Tejada went 4-for-4 with two RBI against Atlanta, one hit good for his first homer as a member of the Astros. He improved his spring average to .293.
February 19, 2008
Miguel Tejada arrived at Astros camp on Tuesday, refusing to talk about his alleged link to performance-enhancing drugs "I can't really talk about that," Tejada said in the AP. "It's not my position to talk about that. Right now, my mind is really focused on playing baseball." The shortstop is under federal investigation for lying to government authorities regarding steroid use. Even if any trial is delayed well into the season, you have to wonder if Tejada's his off-the-field issues will affect his on-the-field play.
February 13, 2008
The Astros expect Miguel Tejada to arrive in camp on time despite concerns he could have faced trouble entering the United States because of his legal woes. "We're still optimistic he's going to be there on time," manager Ed Wade said in the Houston Chronicle. "I talked to one of his representatives (Tuesday), and we still believe that everything is on schedule." The FBI opened a preliminary investigation last month into whether Tejada lied when he told federal authorities he never took steroids or other performance-enhancing drugs.
January 15, 2008
The US Congress has asked the Justice Department to look into whether Miguel Tejada lied to committee staffers when questioned in connection to the Rafael Palmeiro perjury case in 2005. "Tejada told the committee that he never used illegal performance-enhancing drugs and that he had no knowledge of other players using or even talking about steroids," committee chairman Henry Waxman said in the AP. "Well, the Mitchell Report, however, directly contradicts key elements of Mr. Tejada's testimony." The Mitchell Report listed Tejada as having purchased HGH back in 2003.
