Newsbreakers
October 10, 2008
The New York Mets will be willing to listen to offers for center fielder Carlos Beltran, according to MetsBlog.com.

Our View:Take that for what it is worth. General managers likely take calls on pretty much everybody, just for due diligence, but they rarely lead to anything.
October 1, 2008
CBS Sports reports that the New York Mets scheduled a telephone news conference for Thursday to announce a new contract for general manager Omar Minaya.

Our View:Under Minaya, the Mets have seen their payroll skyrocket but they have been edged out of each of the past two postseasons. Among his biggest tasks this winter will be finding a closer to replace Billy Wagner.
September 28, 2008
Carlos Beltran did his part to try and get the Mets into the playoffs in what turned out to be his final game of the season. He accounted for both Mets' RBI with a home run in their 4-2 loss to the Marlins on Sunday.

Our View:All-in-all, it was a pretty good fantasy performance for Beltran in 2008. His 25 stolen bases were the most he had swiped since joined the Mets. He also contributed his highest batting average as a Met to go with 27 home runs, 112 RBI and 116 runs scored.
September 27, 2008
Carlos Beltran was moved up to the No. 2 spot in the batting order on Saturday against the Marlins. Carlos Delgado was moved to No. 3, David Wright to cleanup and Daniel Murphy will hit fifth.

Our View:Beltran is just 3-for-9 in the two-hole this season. Logically, he will get more at bats hitting here rather than the No.5 spot that he had been hitting in lately.
September 25, 2008
Carlos Beltran drove in the game-winning run in the bottom of the ninth as the Mets defeated the Cubs 7-6 on Thursday night. Beltran was 2-for-4 with two runs, an RBI, and a stolen base.

Our View:His 25 stolen bases are the most since 2004 when he had 42. Beltran undoubtedly spared the lives of many Mets fans who could hardly stand to lose another game in extra innings - especailly against the minor league lineup that the Cubs trotted out on Thursday.
