Conine, an original Marlin who was also a member of the team's two World Series champions, will perform a variety of duties. He will work in the community, provide instructional help to players, and scout prospects in the organization's minor-league system. "It became obvious when his playing days were over that we wanted him to be with us forever," Samson said.

October 7, 2008 Jeff Conine has retired from baseball and has moved on to a new challenge - completing an Ironman event, according to the South Florida Sun-Sentinel. "Crossing that finish line is my goal. That will be a major accomplishment," he said.
Our View:It sure will. Contestants have 17 hours to swim 2.4 miles, bike 112 miles, and then run a marathon, which is 26.2 miles. And hey, who knows, maybe there will be fantasy Ironman one day.
March 28, 2008 Jeff Conine signed a one-year deal with the Marlins Friday and then promptly retired, according to the AP. The veteran won two World Series' with the Fish and is known throughout the organization as "Mr. Marlin." Conine finished his 17-year career with a .285 average, 214 home runs and 1,071 RBI.
August 20, 2007 The Mets acquired Jeff Conine from the Reds Monday in exchange for minor league shortstop Jose Castro and minor league outfielder Sean Henry, both of whom were playing for High-A Port St. Lucie. Conine, who hit .265 with six homers in 215 at-bats with Cincinnati, plans on retiring after the season. "I think this is it," he said in the AP. "I can't think of a better way to go out than doing it in the playoffs in New York."
July 26, 2007 Jeff Conine may retire after this season. "As of right now, I'm leaning toward this being my final season," he tells the Cincinnati Enquirer. "Physically, I feel great. There's no issues I'm battling right now. It's just mentally and with the family, it's getting tougher every year."
