Our View:The deal Marquis is expected to be finalized as early as Monday and he would become the the second highest-paid player on the Rockies, behind Todd Helton is will make $16.6 million in 2009.
December 31, 2008 Updating a previous report, the Rockies are close to finalizing a deal with the Cubs to acquire pitcher Jason Marquis, according to ESPN. The Cubs will get right-handed reliever Luis Vizcaino in exchange.
Our View:The Cubs will pay $1 million of Marquis' salary to help facilitate a deal as Colorado would have to add just less than $5 million to its 2009 payroll to acquire Marquis.
