November 15, 2008 The Tigers are not actively shopping star outfielder Magglio Ordonez, according to MLB.com. GM Dave Dombrowski simply stated, "We're not looking to trade Magglio Ordonez."
Our View:Ordonez is not viewed as untouchable by the Tigers, however. Dombrowski has not made a single call to try and deal Ordonez, but would listen to offers if proposed. The Tigers' top needs are at shortstop, catcher, and closer.
November 8, 2008 The Los Angeles Angels are interested in acquiring the services of Detroit slugger Magglio Ordonez, according to MLB.com.
Our View:A lot of things would have to happen for this to occur, and it's unknown if L.A. is one of the 10 places his partial no-trade clause doesn't cover.
November 5, 2008 Agent Scott Boras commented that Magglio Ordonez is not likely to be dealt by the Tigers, according to the Detroit Free Press. Boras said, "Magglio's a great, extraordinary hitter, and everybody wants him. It would be a big loss and a very difficult guy to replace. I think it's very unlikely that Magglio would be moved. The fact is he has control over where he goes, for the most part."
Our View:Ordonez wants to remain in Detroit, and can block a trade to all but 10 teams.
November 4, 2008 The Tigers would be interested in trading Magglio Ordonez if they could use him to fill multiple holes, according to the Detroit Free Press.
Our View:The Tigers' biggest needs are at catcher and shortstop, but their pitching staff could use help as well.
September 28, 2008 Magglio Ordonez extended the Sunday's game with the Rays to extra innings with a two-run home run in the ninth. He was 2-for-5 in the Tigers' last game of a thoroughly disappointing season.
Our View:In 2007, Ordonez hit .363, drove in 139 runs, and scored 117 times. In 2008, he hit just .317 with 101 RBI and 71 runs scored. Although his stat line does not look bad, his season has to be considered a disappointment.
