Our View:Blanco is good defensively and hit .292 over 120 at-bats with the Cubs in 2008. The Orioles are looking for a stopgap at the position until Matt Wieters is ready to take over as a full-time starter.

December 2, 2008 Henry Blanco's brother has been killed by a gunshot in Venezuela, according to MLB.com. Local police are deeming the case to be a kidnapping/murder. The 39-year-old Carlos Blanco was being held for a ransom reported at 200 million Venezuelan Bolivares. Henry Blanco had been in negotiations with the kidnappers.
Our View:Blanco or the Cubs are yet to comment on the tragic incident.
