The Marlins released Alex Sanchez Wednesday, the team's official site reports. Sanchez had a shot at winning the team's starting job in center field this spring, but he hit just .163 this month.
March 15, 2007
Alex Sanchez went 0-for-1 at the plate on Thursday, but he swiped his fifth base of the spring. Typically a very bad basestealer, he's been caught stealing just once this spring. Sanchez is competing with Eric Reed for the starting job in center field, although he's not helping his case with his .214 (6-for-28) batting average.

The battle for the Marlins' center field job has been whittled down to Alex Sanchez and Eric Reed, according to the Miami Herald. Sanchez is hitting .222 with four stolen bases this spring, while Reed is hitting .364 with one stolen base.
March 12, 2007
Alex Sanchez was 1-for-3 with a triple for the Marlins Monday, but he is hitting just .182 (4-for-22) so far this spring. Sanchez is trying to win the team's center field job.
March 2, 2007
Alex Sanchez went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and a run scored on Thursday against the Orioles. He's competing for the starting job in center field, and he could be a cheap source of speed if he comes away with the job.
