April 3, 2008 The Astros signed Tim Byrdak to a minor-league deal Thursday. He'll report to Triple-A Round Rock initially, but Houston has just one lefty in the pen now and could bring him up soon. Byrdak was released last week by Detroit.

March 18, 2008 Tigers manager Jim Leyland was irritated with Tim Byrdak Tuesday, because the pitcher gestured to the catcher as if he was asking whether a pitch that was sent over the fence was too high, according to the AP. "Was it up? The pitch is over that berm!" Leyland said. It wasn't the only homer he gave up Tuesday, either. By the end of his lone inning of work Byrdak had allowed two homers, six hits and six runs. That left his spring ERA at 10.00.
