Our View:The Diamondbacks are no longer pursuing Garland, and are not necessarily in the market for a starting pitcher. They also made an offer to Brad Penny prior to signing with Boston.

Garland could also be a favorable alternative for the Dodgers and Brewers if they miss out on their top targets.

Our View:The Orioles need help with their rotation as they lack a stable starter beyond ace Jeremy Guthrie. The Orioles had AJ Burnett high on their list, but he is falling out of reach for them. Garland had success with the White Sox prior to a disappointing campaign with the Angels in 2008, and would be a favorable addition for Baltimore.

Our View:Garland is coming off a disappointing campaign with the Angels as he held a poor 4.90 ERA and 1.51 WHIP, and the Mets could view him as a bargain signing if they fail to land their high-priced targets, such as Derek Lowe.
