As of now, skipper Bruce Bochy envisions Bengie Molina to bat clean-up for 2009, according to the SF Chronicle.

Our View:Bochy also projects newly acquired shortstop Edgar Renteria to bat second between leadoff man Randy Winn and Pablo Sandoval. Molina would have a shot to top 100 RBI from the clean-up spot next season, after ending with 95 in 2008.
September 27, 2008
Bengie Molina hit a home run on Friday night, but did not get the run scored. His hit was originally ruled a single and the Giants sent in a pinch-runner for him according to the L.A. Times. But then the hit went for a review after Omar Vizquel said he heard it hit the top of the wall! The hit was then ruled a home run but since the change had already been made, Molina did not account for the run.

Our View:That was odd. Emmanuel Burriss, the pinch-runner, trotted around the bases and was credited with the run.
September 21, 2008
Bengie Molina went 3-for-5 with a run scored in Saturday's 10-7 loss to the Dodgers. He hit a single and two doubles.

Our View:Molina has registered multiple hits in three straight games, with eight hits over the span. He has also scored a run in four straight games.
September 16, 2008
Bengie Molina would like to receive a contract extension from the San Francisco Giants, as he will be a free agent after the 2009 season, according to the San Jose Mercury News.

Our View:Frankly, that doesn't seem all that likely, as Pablo Sandoval has been crushing the ball, and Buster Posey, the team's first-round draft pick, could be on the fast track to the major leagues.
September 13, 2008
Bengie Molina went 2-for-5 with three RBI in Saturday's 7-0 win over the Padres. He hit a single and a two-run homer.

Our View:Molina has recorded two hits in three of his last six games, with two homers over the span. He now has 86 RBI, and the Giants have 14 games left in the season for him to challenge 100.
September 10, 2008
Bengie Molina is not happy that he sat Tuesday night in favor of Pablo Sandoval, who Molina believes has become the personal catcher to hurler Barry Zito, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. "It is a personal catcher whether they say that or not. I'm not very happy at all. I can't be happy. I came here to play. If they don't consider me a No. 1 catcher, if I can't catch the No. 1 guy on the staff, let me know. I ain't stupid. I don't think I've ever been stupid," Molina said.

Our View:Molina has been an excellent catcher for fantasy owners this season, with 83 RBI on the year to go with a .289 average and 12 home runs. The only thing we would question is him calling Barry Zito the No. 1 guy on the staff. Tim Lincecum, anybody?
September 9, 2008
Bengie Molina continued his mini tear last night against the Diamondbacks hitting his 12th home run on the year and is nine for his last 21.

Our View:Molina is having one of his best offensive season with 12 home runs, 82 RBI and is hitting .287. He has been a solid hitter all year.
September 1, 2008
Bengie Molina had three hits on Monday, one of only two Giants who had more than one hit against the Rockies (Rich Aurilia had two).

Our View:Molina leads the Giants offense with 79 RBI, quite a hefty total for a backstop wouldn't you say?
August 24, 2008
Giants catcher Bengie Molina almost single-handedly beat the Padres by going 3-for-4 with a home run as part of a five RBI day in San Francisco's 7-4 win over the Padres.

Our View:Molina has been great at driving in runs for fantasy owners. He now has 77 on the season, though they have come with just 10 home runs.
August 15, 2008
Bengie Molina hasn't done much at the plate since July, but he had a big game Friday, picking up four singles and two RBI.

Our View:Molina has put together a solid .286-9-68 line on the year.
August 9, 2008
Bengie Molina hit his ninth home run of the season on Friday night as he knocked in his team leading 64th and 65th runs of the year for the Giants.

Our View:Molina clearly would have to get on his horse to match last years total of 19 home runs, but he is still within striking distance of the 81 RBI he produced last season.
July 31, 2008
Bengie Molina played the entire game Wednesday and is not believed to be traded, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. However, the Twins have talked with the Giants about a couple players, including Rich Aurilia and Jack Taschner. ESPN's Jayson Stark has reported that the Twins were willing to give up Boof Bonser, a former Giants farmhand.

Our View:Molina has been one of the few bright spots on the Giants' roster thus far. We're likely to see the team make at least one move today, but that move is unlikely to involve their catcher.
July 24, 2008
Bengie Molina continued his recent hot trend on Wednesday night as he posted three hits and two RBI for the Giants. Omar Vizquel also added three hits in the victory.

Our View:Molina only hit .132 over his first 53 AB in July, but he has five hits the past two nights with five RBI thanks to a small adjustment in his swing.
July 22, 2008
Bengie Molina hit two home runs and recorded three RBI in a 6-3 win over Washington on Tuesday.

Our View:Molina was hitting only .189 since June 9th, but this night has slump-buster written all over it.
July 22, 2008
Bengie Molina has been struggling so manager Bruce Bochy has considered dropping him down from the cleanup spot in the order until he finds his swing, according to the SF Chronicle. Bochy said, "Yeah, we've thought about tweaking the lineup, but we believe in Bengie. He'll come out of this. He's too good a hitter. If we think we'll have to adjust with anybody, we'll do it. When Bengie comes out of it, he's going to make a lot of noise."

Our View:Molina still co-leads NL catchers with 56 RBI, even though Molina is only hitting .181 since June 9. The team has faith in him, and he hit a few balls hard on Sunday, so he could get back on track soon.
July 12, 2008
San Francisco catcher Bengie Molina may be starting to swing a hot bat again, going 3-for-6 in today's 11-inning loss to the Cubs (8-7). Molina hit two doubles on the day to total two RBIs and two runs scored on the day.

Our View:Molina hit .275 with 13 homers and 27 RBIs last month, but is hitting just .162 with no homers and seven RBIs through July thus far. Today could indicate the start of another streak of good fortune, so keep tabs on his progress.
June 15, 2008
Bengie Molina went 0-for-4 but collected his 43rd RBI of the season on a sacrifice fly in Sunday's 5-3 loss to the Athletics.

Our View:Molina is enjoying a strong season, but is in a bit of a slump as he hasn't registered a hit in six straight games.
June 7, 2008
Bengie Molina had another solid night from the middle of the Giants order as he went 2-for-5 with a runs scored and an RBI.

Our View:Big Money Molina really is at the point where he should be considered for the all-star team. He may be overweight and only run slightly faster than a tortoise, but he is hitting .332 with 40 RBI on the year.
June 5, 2008
Florida State catcher Buster Posey fell to the Giants at pick five of the draft, according to the AP.

Our View:He is an athletic catcher, who has also played shortstop as well as a closer out of the bullpen, and he was projected to go number one overall to Tamp Bay on several lists. He projects to have average power in the majors, but could be a future Gold Glove contender, as he has a very strong arm. This was a safe pick for the Giants, and he should be the eventual replacement for Bengie Molina, who was 38-years old on opening day.
May 29, 2008
San Francisco catcher Bengie Molina can't get much hotter at the plate, helping his team take a big 11-3 win over Arizona. Molina went 3-for-4 with a walk, hitting his 16th double of the season to post two RBIs and two runs scored on the evening.

Our View:This brings Molina to .361 through May, touting 16 RBIs through his last nine games.
May 27, 2008
Bengie Molina was named the NL Player of the Week last week, and he hasn't slowed down. The rotund catcher had a pair of hits, including a three-run homer, in Tuesday's win over Arizona.

Our View:Molina is batting .640 with two homers and 12 RBI over the last six games. His .329-6-34 line so far is outstanding for a backstop.
May 27, 2008
Giants' catcher Bengie Molina has been named the NL Player of the Week, according to the Sports Network. Molina earned the honor by hitting .652 (15-for-23) with six doubles and nine RBI for the week, while compiling a .654 on-base and 1.043 slugging percentage in that span. He had five multi-hit games to his credit as well.

Our View:Molina continues to enjoy a strong campaign, as he is hitting .327 with five homers and 31 RBI over 44 games.
May 25, 2008
San Francisco catcher Bengie Molina continues to swing the bat for fortune for the struggling San Francisco Giants, taking their second loss of the day to the Florida Marlins by falling 5-4 in the second game of today's double-header. Molina went 2-for-3 with his 15th double of the season, totaling two RBIs in the game.

Our View:This brings Molina to 9-for-12 with one homer and seven RBIs in three games against Florida.
May 25, 2008
San Francisco catcher Bengie Molina put forth a valiant effort at the plate in the Giants 8-6 loss to the Marlins in the first to two games these combatants will wage today. Molina went 4-for-4 with three doubles, collecting three RBIs and two runs scored on the day.

Our View:Molina has one of the hottest bats in the majors right now, touting hits in each of his last seven games, going 16-for-27 along the way.
May 24, 2008
Bengie Molina recorded his fourth multi-hit game in the last week and extended his hitting streak to six games on Friday night. The Giants catcher went 3-for-5 with a home run and two RBI.

Our View: Molina's .304/5/26 line makes him one of the fantasy elite at the catcher position. Molina currently ranks in the top five among catchers in most all formats.
May 21, 2008
Bengie Molina was set for a day off on Wednesday, but Steve Holm went down due to illness, and Molina was forced to start at catcher against the Rockies, according to MLB.com.

Our View:He has started 38 of San Francisco's first 48 games, putting him on a pace to start 128 games, which is a high amount for a catcher, especially a 33-year old one like Molina. Molina has started six games in a row and 12 of the last 13, including today. He still leads the team with 23 RBI, and holds a solid .289 batting average.
May 11, 2008
Bengie Molina was 2-for-2 with two runs scored as the Giants defeated the Phillies 4-3 on Sunday afternoon.

Our View:Molina has 11 runs scored, 20 RBI and four home runs while hitting .282 on the year. The Giants catcher is a starting option at catcher in any format.
May 7, 2008
The Giants suffered the 3-1 loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates this evening, but catcher Bengie Molina did what he could to produce different results. Molina went 2-for-4, posting his 20th RBI of the season.

Our View:Molina has struggled to keep the batting average up, now at 5-for-18 in the month of May.
May 6, 2008
Bengie Molina currently ranks second in the Major League among catchers with 19 RBI, according to MLB.com. Geovany Soto of the Cubs leads with 20.

Our View:Molina is also hitting .296 with four homers (over 25 games), and 17 of his RBI came over the last 17 games. He has proven to be a tremendous value for those fantasy owners who like to hold off and wait to address the catcher position during the draft.
May 3, 2008
Bengie Molina went 3-for-5 with one RBI in Saturday's 3-2 win over the Phillies.

Our View:Molina raised his average to .299 and tallied 19 RBI over 24 games played. He remains an under-rated fantasy performer at the position.
April 20, 2008
Bengie Molina hit three doubles and drove in three runs in the Giants 8-2 win over the Cardinals on Sunday afternoon.

Our View:Molina now has 13 RBI, seven runs and is hitting .292 on the season.
April 11, 2008
Bengie Molina went 2-for-4 with one RBI in Thursday's 5-1 win over St. Louis. He has now collected eight RBI (with three homers) over nine games played, and could be a serviceable fantasy option if you need help at the position.
April 7, 2008
Bengie Molina had two hits on Monday which led to three RBI against the Padres for the Giants. Though he might be the worst cleanup hitter in the majors, Molina knows how to knock in runs, so as long as someone can get on base ahead of him he would figure to have a shot at a second straight 80-RBI season in San Francisco.
March 17, 2008
Bengie Molina was booed this weekend for not hustling to first and for not trying for extra bases, but he's been told to not run hard to protect his sore quadriceps, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. "They don't know how I feel or what my intentions are," Molina said. "I want to be ready for March 31 (the opener in Los Angeles) instead of trying for a double and be lost for three weeks or a month." He still expects to be ready for the season opener, and you can still expect him to be about as slow a runner as they come, even when healthy.
March 7, 2008
Recovered from his strained left quadriceps, according to the Giants team website, catcher Bengie Molina played four innings in his first Cactus League game. The report noted that the Giants' starting lineup on Friday resembled what might be the team's Opening Day contingent. Molina continues to get little support from the fantasy community. After playing in 134 games in '07, registering the second most home runs among catchers behind only John Buck of KC, the San Fran backstop is currently the 11th catcher list according to Mock Draft Centrals mixed league ADP chart.
February 27, 2008
Bengie Molina's quad strain is taking longer than expected to heal, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. He's expected to miss the first few spring training games, but there's no reason to think this will affect his availability for the start of the regular season.
February 24, 2008
Bengie Molina is dealing with a strained quadriceps that might keep him from taking part in the Giants' first exhibition game on Thursday, according to the Contra Costa Times. "I'd rather miss half the spring and be ready to play the whole season," Molina said. So long as he doesn't aggravate the injury, this shouldn't affect his status for the regular season, though manager Bruce Bochy said Molina was 50-50 for Thursday's contest.
February 15, 2008
The Giants plan on hitting Bengie Molina cleanup this year. The catcher doesn't feel any added pressure hitting in the spot that had been reserved for Barry Bonds. "I think they have the right guy in me because I don't think about it," Molina said in the AP. "I just see it like I have to stand up at the plate, look for my pitch and hit it hard somewhere. That's the only thing I'm going to try to do. I'm not going to try to hit more home runs or less home runs, but drive in runs with hits. I'm straight up going to be myself." Molina is a nice offensive catcher, but the fact that he's in line to hit fourth just gives you an idea how pathetic the Giants lineup is.
