Newsbreakers
October 11, 2008
The Toronto Blue Jays are likely going to pick up the $2.5 million option on catcher Rod Barajas, and open the season with him as the starter, according to BlueJays.com.

Our View:Barajas hit .249 with 11 home runs and 49 RBI in 349 at-bats. He is not a solid option in mixed leagues due to his poor batting average and OBP (.294), but may have value in AL-only leagues.
September 18, 2008
The chances of Rod Barajas playing again in 2008 took a blow today as an MRI showed a Grade 3 tear of his hamstring, according to MLB.com. Barajas initially injured the hamstring on September 10th and then re-aggravated it on Saturday against the Red Sox.

Our View:With Barajas out of the lineup, Curtis Thigpen has been seeing time behind the plate. Whoever plays for the Jays, they do not have any fantasy value.
September 17, 2008
The Globe and Mail reports that the Blue Jays will pick up catcher Rod Barajas' $2.4 million option for next season. He has currently missed the past three games with a strained hamstring.

Our View:This does not necessarily mean he has the starting position locked up for next season. He has been average at best in 2008 and may be better served in the backup role currently occupied by 37-year-old Greg Zaun.
September 16, 2008
Rod Barajas missed his third straight game on Tuesday with a strained hamstring. There is no word yet on his return.

Our View:No one wants him back as much as his 37-year-old backup, Greg Zaun, who caught his fourth game in four days, including a doubleheader last Saturday.
September 14, 2008
Barajas aggravated his hamstring during the first game of Saturday's doubleheader, the Toronto Sun reports.

Our View:He will sit out at least a couple days but hopefully won't miss too much time. Gregg Zaun will start in his place.
