Newsbreakers
December 11, 2008
Felipe Lopez has signed a one-year deal with the Diamondbacks worth $3.5 million, according to Sports Illustrated.

Our View:This is a solid signing to shore up Arizona's middle infield, but it remains to be seen if he is viewed as the replacement for Orlando Hudson at second base.
December 10, 2008
The Diamondbacks have made a one-year offer to Felipe Lopez, according to the Arizona Republic.

Our View:Lopez, 28, had a down-and-up 2008 season in which he was released by the Washington Nationals on July 31 yet caught on and flourished with the St. Louis Cardinals in the final two months of the season. He ended up hitting a combined .283 with a .343 on-base. He is likely seeking a longer deal than this.
December 8, 2008
It will be difficult for the Cardinals to re-sign infielder Felipe Lopez because the team has not had luck trading second baseman Adam Kennedy, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Our View:Kennedy has been asking for a trade, but the team has been unable to find any takers.
November 14, 2008
The Cardinals have made an offer to retain second baseman Felipe Lopez, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Our View:Lopez hit .384 over two months with the Cardinals last season, and could be a favorable fantasy option for 2009 if he re-signs with St. Louis and roams second base full time.
October 7, 2008
The St. Louis Cardinals are said to be interested in bringing back Felipe Lopez to be their full-time second baseman next year, according to StLCardinals.com.

Our View:Lopez was fantastic for the Cardinals after being picked up from Washington. He hit .385 in 43 games and drove home 22 runs. He won't hit at that rate for a full season, but if he can perform to a level a few notches below that and steal a few bases, he will certainly be fantasy-worthy next season.
