Newsbreakers
January 7, 2009
MLB.com reports that the Rangers are looking into signing third baseman Joe Crede.

Our View:Crede has been limited over the past two seasons due to a balky back. He is a good defensive third baseman with some pop and would seem to be a better option than Travis Metcalf.
January 1, 2009
Joe Crede is on the Giants radar this offseason, according to Jon Heyman of Sports Illustrated.

Our View:The Giants have long been rumored to have in interest in the former White Sox starting third basemen who has experienced back troubles the past two years. If healthy he plays a mean hot corner and has a lot of pop in his bat, but his health will be a concern until he proves otherwise though the Giants have few other alternatives as they simply must add power to a weak lineup.
December 10, 2008
The Chicago Tribune reports that third baseman Joe Crede is recovering well from back issues that ended his season early.

Our View:Crede is a free agent but he will not likely land a deal until later this winter. His power numbers are up in recent seasons, but he is still better known for his defense.
September 29, 2008
Joe Crede will fly to Texas to have an MRI on his lower back as well as be examined by spine specialist Andrew Dossett, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Our View:If Chicago makes the playoffs, Crede is not expected to be available, meaning the impending free agent has likely played his last game for the team.
September 22, 2008
Joe Crede is not expected back this season, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. Manager Ozzie Guillen said, "I don't think Joe will be back this year. He could be back but not be playing. It's going to be hard for him to come back and do it. He said the doctor found out what happened. From what he told me, we can't count on him this season."

Our View:He is still dealing with inflammation in his back, and his prognosis is to continue his rehab program. Crede will become a free agent in the off-season, and has likely played his last game for the White Sox. He will always be remembered in Chicago for his heroics through their magical World Series run in 2005.
