Our View:Smith hit .214 with two doubles and one RBI in 22 games for the Royals last season. The infielder started the season at Triple-A and in 110 games for Omaha, he hit .253 with 20 doubles, seven triples and 62 RBIs.
December 12, 2008
Jason Smith has been designated for assignment by the Royals, according to the Kansas City Star.

Our View:The Royals made the move to clear space on their 40-man roster for lefty hurler Horacio Ramirez. The 31-year-old infielder was merely organizational depth at this point of his career.
August 2, 2008
Jason Smith was recalled from Triple-A Omaha to replace the injured Mark Grudzielanek, according to The Sports Network.

Our View:Smith was hitting just .253 in the minor leagues and has no fantasy value.
March 26, 2008
Jason Smith went 3-for-4 with two RBI against Seattle on Wednesday, while collecting his second homer of the spring. He raised his spring average to .349 (with eight RBI) and this was a great day for him as he fights for a bench job.
December 13, 2007
Jason Smith agreed to terms on a one-year deal with the Royals Wednesday, avoiding arbitration. Smith hit just .199 in 141 at-bats in 2007. He'll get work as a utility infielder.
