Tim Hudson underwent Tommy John surgery and hopes to return to the hill by August of next season, according to MLB.com.

Our View:Hudson will make $13 million next season with a $12 million option for the 2010 season. At 33 years old and even with his history of success, he ranks second among active pitchers with a .655 winning percentage (200 decisions), it would be surprising if the Braves were to pick up that option.
August 2, 2008
Tim Hudson will undergo ligament-transplant elbow surgery to repair his torn ulnar collateral ligament late next week, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Dr. James Andrews will perform the surgery.

Our View:Hudson has already spoken with Braves' hurlers John Smoltz, Mike Gonzalez and Peter Moylan about what to expect after "Tommy John" surgery. All three have had the procedure.
July 31, 2008
Braves pitcher Tim Hudson will need to undergo Tommy John surgery, and will likely miss most of next year, according to MLB.com. Dr. James Andrews took an MRI of his arm and showed Hudson where the tear of the ligament was.

Our View:Hudson is realistic about it and understands he will need to undergo the procedure, but he wants to hold off for a few days. Still, he realizes it will take something remarkable to not have to go under the knife. "Miracles happen," Hudson said.
July 30, 2008
Updating an earlier report, it now appears that Tim Hudson will wait to decide upon whether or not he needs Tommy John surgery after a visit with renowned doctor James Andrew left him with the option of waiting a couple of weeks before making a final decision, according to MLB.com. "I'm going to tough it out," Hudson said via a text message.

Our View:Talk about conflicting reports. The Atlanta Journal Constitution reported that two doctors suggested surgery immediately, though Dr. Andrews appears hopeful that some rest and rehab could be the proper prescription to what ails Hudson. Peter Moylan received the same advice from Dr. Andrews earlier this year but after two weeks of rest it was determined that surgery was needed. Will that be the same fate as Hudson?
July 30, 2008
Two doctors have recommended that Tim Hudson should undergo Tommy John surgery to repair the injured ligament in his elbow, according the the Atlanta Journal Constitution.

Our View:Hudson was reportedly shocked by the diagnosis and was throwing 90 mph in his last outing even with the injury. It appears that his season is over, and his 2009 season is also likely done as well, at least until late in the year if he announces that he will undergo the procedure (a decision is due on Thursday).
July 29, 2008
Tim Hudson will meet with a team physician before traveling to Birmingham, Alabama to see famed orthopedic surgeon James Andrews, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. It's already been revealed that he has ligament damage, and it's possible he could require Tommy John surgery. Hudson said he hasn't felt pain in his elbow. "I'm starting to wonder if it's been like this for three or four years, and is just something I learned to deal with," Hudson said Monday.

Our View:It's purely speculative at this point, but obviously Hudson would miss the rest of this year and most, if not all, of next year if he goes under the knife.
July 28, 2008
The Sports Ticker reports that Braves' general manager Frank Wren announced on Monday night that an MRI performed on staff ace Tim Hudson's right elbow revealed possible ligament damage. The 33-year old will be evaluated further by Dr. James Andrews in Birmingham, Alabama later this week.

Our View:Of course this means that the pitcher could be headed for Tommy John surgery. Hudson was having another solid season going 11-7 with a 3.17 ERA.
July 28, 2008
The AP reports that Tim Hudson, who was previously scheduled to start on Tuesday, has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with right elbow tightness.

Our View:He had previously stated that his elbow was feeling better and was able to make his start on Tuesday. However, after poor play of late, the Braves may be conceding the season and feel the need to rest their dinged up players.
July 25, 2008
Braves pitcher Tim Hudson said his elbow is feeling much better, and that he should be able to start on Tuesday when the Braves take on the Cardinals, according to Braves.com.

Our View:Hudson has been very good this season, with 11 wins, an ERA of 3.17 and a 1.16 WHIP. If he's confident his elbow is okay, you should feel confident leaving him in your fantasy rotation.
July 24, 2008
Tim Hudson said his elbow injury should not cause him to miss his next start, according to the AP. Hudson said, "I don’t foresee any problems unless I wake up tomorrow and can’t move my elbow. I don’t foresee it being that big of a deal."

Our View:Hudson has dealt with a few injuries already this season, so this is good news his latest ailment is minor. He managed to rack up 11 wins so far.
July 23, 2008
Tim Hudson shutout the Marlins for six innings on Wednesday to pick up his 11th victory but he was forced to leave after six innings because of tightness in his pitching elbow, according to MLB.com.

Our View:We have no further information to report at this time, but we are holding our fingers crossed that the Braves just removed him to be on the safe side.
July 13, 2008
Tim Hudson made a relief appearance in the eighth inning of Sunday's 12-3 win over the Padres. The one inning of relief was the first of his nine-year career.

Our View:Hudson pitched a perfect eighth inning after making 301 straight career starts.
July 9, 2008
Veteran hurler Tim Hudson suffered his seventh loss of the season as his Braves struggled to get the bats warm at the plate, falling 2-1 against the Dodgers. Hudson pitched seven innings, allowing just two runs (both earned) on four hits with two walks and four strikeouts.

Our View:Hudson went just 1-3 through six June starts, allowing a total of 17 earned runs along the way. The hope was to find offensive support and get back on track in July, but tonight's loss shows that the hits are still an issue.
July 4, 2008
Tim Hudson enjoyed a strong outing in Friday's 6-2 win over the Astros, as he only gave up one earned run on four hits over seven innings, with three walks and six strikeouts.

Our View:He improves to 9-6, and trimmed his ERA to 3.19. He bounced back nicely from his last outing, when he surrendered six earned runs in a loss to Toronto. Hudson is now 2-2 over his last four starts.
June 28, 2008
Atlanta RHP Tim Hudson suffered through his sixth loss of the season today, falling 9-5 the Toronto Blue Jays. Hudson lasted five innings, surrendering six runs (all earned) on seven hits with three walks and three strikeouts, including two homers surrendered to do the bulk of the damage.

Our View:This brings Hudson to 1-3 for the month of June and 8-6 overall, today being the second game in his last three starts to surrender six earned runs.
June 28, 2008
Atlanta veteran Tim Hudson will be tasked with keeping his team in the win column this evening as the Braves take on the Toronto Blue Jays, according to the Sports Network.

Our View:After going winless in his previous five starts, Hudson baffled the Seattle Mariners this past Sunday. In the 8-3 victory, the 32-year-old tossed seven scoreless innings, scattering four hits, while striking out two batters. Hudson has not been at his best away from home, going just 2-4 with a 3.74 ERA in nine road starts. In 53 innings of duty on the road, Hudson has allowed 52 hits, but has held the opposition to just 24 runs and only four home runs.
June 22, 2008
Atlanta RHP Tim Hudson wasn't especially sharp on the mound this afternoon, but he picked up the win as his Braves pulled out the 8-3 win over the Mariners. Hudson pitched seven innings of shutout baseball, surrendering just four hits with four walks and two strikeouts.

Our View:This was one of Hudson's best outings this season and brings his ERA to 2.96 on the season, touting three starts with one or fewer earned runs allowed this month.
June 22, 2008
The Atlanta Braves will send RHP Tim Hudson to the hill today as they battle in their interleague finale against Seattle, according to the Sports Network.

Our View:Hudson comes off the worst performance of his season thus far, giving up six runs (all earned) on six hits over 4 1/3 innings, falling 7-5 to Texas. In 23 career starts versus Seattle, Hudson is 12-6 with a 3.32 ERA, touting two complete games. However, the veteran hurler is an atrocious 0-10 with an ERA of 7.82 in interleague play since joining Atlanta.
June 17, 2008
Atlanta RHP Tim Hudson suffered through a rough outing this evening, taking the loss as his Braves fell 7-5 to the Rangers. Hudson pitched 4 1/3 innings, giving up six runs (all earned) on six hits with two walks and three strikeouts.

Our View:Hudson surrendered just one home run but the flurry of hits in the third led to his demise. He now stands at 7-5 on the season with two losses and three no-decisions over his last five starts.
June 17, 2008
Tim Hudson was removed from his last start due to cramps and dehydration, but is set to take the mound tonight against the Rangers, according to MLB.com. The former member of the Athletics is 6-5 with a 4.01 ERA in 16 career starts against the Rangers.

Our View:Hudson had trouble staying healthy this season, but still managed to generate solid numbers, as he holds a 7-4 mark with a 2.76 ERA and 1.14 WHIP, and has only allowed one earned run in each of his last two starts.
June 16, 2008
Tim Hudson is on schedule to make his start against the Rangers on Tuesday, according to the Atlanta Journal Constitution.

Our View:Hudson had to be removed from his last start due to cramps and dehydration, an issue that he has dealt with from time to time. He appears to be in fine shape at the moment, though starting in Texas against a potent Rangers lineup will certainly be a challenge.
June 12, 2008
Tim Hudson held the Cubs to just one run on Thursday before he was treated for dehydration, according to MLB.com. "He couldn't bend his fingers," after being removed from the game Braves manager Bobby Cox said.

Our View:Even if his fingers couldn't bend, Hudson likely would have had a better chance of picking up the win if he had thrown underhand than he did by turning over the game to the team's bullpen. Hopefully Hudson will be able to make his next start, we'll keep you posted.
June 12, 2008
Tim Hudson limited the Padres to just one run over 6.2 innings on Thursday, but he picked up a no-decision after Blaine Boyer blew the save in the ninth inning.

Our View:The Braves bullpen simply stinks. Hudson has allowed just two runs over his last two starts, but both times he was saddled with the no-decision when the bullpen blew the game in the ninth inning.
June 3, 2008
Tim Hudson still expects to make his next scheduled start Friday against the Phillies, according to the Atlanta Journal Constitution. Hudson is nursing a strained left hamstring, and said, "I feel OK, just a little sore. It's nothing like when I had a pulled hamstring in the past. Just get some treatment, stay on top of it the next four days, ice it, and I should be able to pitch."

Our View:Manager Bobby Cox mentioned that the Braves may have a minor league pitcher on standby, just in case. More updates should come as Friday approaches.
June 2, 2008
Tim Hudson expects to make his next start despite a mild left hamstring strain. "Hopefully, the next few days it'll gradually get a little better," Hudson informs MLB.com. "But even if it stays the way it is, it should be OK to go out there and pitch." He suffered the injury on Sunday and is slated to face the Phillies on Friday.

Our View:It's good news that Hudson is so positive early in the week. We anticipate updates as Friday nears.
June 1, 2008
It appears the cramp that Tim Hudson experienced in Sunday afternoon's game in Cincinnati is actually a strained left hamstring, this according to MLB.com.

Our View:Hudson's hamstring will undergo an MRI on Monday according to the report. Updates on his injury are expected to be available on Monday morning.
June 1, 2008
Updating a previous report, Tim Hudson left his start on Sunday due to a left leg cramp, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

Our View:Hopefully Hudson will bounce back quickly and be able to make his next start. This initial report doesn't sound too serious.
June 1, 2008
Tim Hudson left his start on Sunday in the seventh inning due to a left leg injury.

Our View:We'll update his status when more is known, which should be shortly after the contest.
May 27, 2008
Tim Hudson will be targeting his eighth win of the season when he challenges the Brewers tonight in Milwaukee, according to MLB.com. Hudson is 7-3 with a 2.97 ERA and strong 1.05 WHIP over 11 starts.

Our View:Hudson only allowed two earned runs in his last start (against the Mets), and has allowed two or less runs in four of his five starts in May. Keep him in your lineups, despite a tough match-up against Ryan Braun and the Brewers' sluggers.
May 22, 2008
Tim Hudson picked up his seventh win on Thursday night by holding the Mets to only two runs over eight innings. Hudson didn't walk a batter though he did allow two solo home runs.

Our View:Three times this year Hudson has allowed four or more earned runs. In the three starts directly following those outings he has allowed one, zero and two runs. How's that for limiting the damage?
May 22, 2008
Tim Hudson will be aiming for his seventh win of the season when the Braves host the Mets tonight, according to MLB.com.

Our View:Hudson is 6-3 with a solid 3.06 ERA and 1.07 WHIP over 61.2 innings, with 38 strikeouts. Hudson was rocked for five runs in his last start, but only allowed three runs (two earned) over his previous three starts in May. Keep him in your lineup tonight.
May 17, 2008
Tim Hudson suffered his third loss of the season as the Oakland Athletics beat the Atlanta Braves 5-4 on Saturday night. In the loss the right hander allowed five runs on five hits, walked five and struck out three.

Our View:After a string of strong outings, Hudson was obviously not on his game, and against his old team for that matter. Hudson's ERA climbed to 3.06 in the loss.
May 12, 2008
The Pirates, who were hoping to sweep Monday's doubleheader and extend their winning streak to seven, decided to pitch John Van Benschoten against Tim Hudson -- which destroyed that hope. Hudson was strong in his ninth start of the season allowing one unearned run on two hits, walked two and struck out five in seven innings of work.

Our View:Hudson is now 6-2 on the season. While it's still early, it appears Hudson is ready to challenge his career year (20-6/169 SO) of 2000 with the A's.
May 7, 2008
Atlanta RHP Tim Hudson made the start for the Braves this evening and picked up his fifth win of the season, putting the San Diego Padres in the loss column 5-2. Hudson threw seven innings, allowing two runs (both earned) on six hits with three walks and three strike outs earned along the way.

Our View:Hudson now carries a record of 5-2 on the season with an impressive 30 strike outs versus just eight walks surrendered.
May 2, 2008
Tim Hudson pitched his 11th career shutout as the Atlanta Braves ended a season-high four-game losing streak with a 2-0 victory over the Cincinnati Reds on Friday night.

Our View:His shutout comes on the heels of allowing opponents to hit nearly .400 against him over the last three games, and leaving his last start in the third inning in a loss to the Mets.
April 26, 2008
Tim Hudson fell to 3-2 on Saturday as he allowed four runs on seven hits over three innings of work against the Mets, with no walks and one strikeout. Hudson was pulled after three innings, but the team said it was due to his performance and not due to an injury.

Our View:Hudson had a rough outing today, but carried a 1.08 WHIP and 2.93 ERA heading into the game, and his fantasy stock remains steady.
April 21, 2008
Tim Hudson rebounded from a terrible start to pick up his third victory of the season by holding the Nationals to just one earned run in 6.2 innings. Hudson did allow 10 hits with just three K on the night, but he also permitted only two walks.

Our View:The best news might have been that Hudson was throwing almost every fastball in the 90-92 mph range, proving that whatever ailed him last game when he was throwing just 85 is hopefully behind him.
April 21, 2008
Tim Hudson, who had a rough outing last time out with decreased velocity, faces the Nationals on Monday, this according to MLB.com.

Our View:Hopefully this outing sees a return in Hudson's velocity as he has long dominated the Nationals franchise with a 6-1 record with a 1.11 ERA.
April 17, 2008
Following up on an earlier report; Tim Hudson's fastball velocity was down about five mph in Wednesday's loss to the Marlins. Tim Hudson told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, "I felt fine physically. Just one of those nights I went out there and just couldn't get anything behind the ball. It was kind of a weird feeling. My heater fastball is normally a lot better than that. Just wasn't coming out of my hand good, for whatever reason."

Our View:Things look bad in Hotlanta. Their entire starting rotation is in shambles, their closer is on the disabled list, and Mark Teixeira can't hit left-handed pitching, his strong suit. Don't be deceived. While the Braves are not disclosing any injury news concerning Hudson, a team and coaching staff don't pull their ace after three innings for simply "not having his best stuff." Throw up the yellow caution sign around Hudson and the Braves. They are taking on water with a quickness.
April 17, 2008
Tim Hudson's fastball velocity was down about 5 mph all night during his loss to Florida on Wednesday, according to the Atlanta Journal Constitution. Hudson threw a fastball as hard as he could to Mike Jacobs, but he juiced it into the stands for a homer, on a pitch that only hit 85-mph. Hudson commented, "I felt fine physically. Just one of those nights I went out there and just couldn't get anything behind the ball. It was kind of a weird feeling. My heater fastball is normally a lot better than that. Just wasn't coming out of my hand good, for whatever reason."

Our View:Hopefully he is not hurt, and will bounce back in his next outing.
April 16, 2008
Tim Hudson had his first poor outing of the season on Wednesday as he allowed six hits and four runs in just three innings to pick up his first loss against the Marlins.

Our View:Hudson had been money before this outing, and even with it, his ERA sits at 3.38 while his WHIP is 0.88, so he is still well on his way to a very solid month of April.
April 16, 2008
Tim Hudson is set to take the hill tonight against Florida, according to MLB.com. He is pitching very well as he is off to a 2-0 start with a 2.14 ERA over 21 innings, with 12 strikeouts and only two walks.

Our View:He will be opposed by lefty Mark Hendrickson, who is 2-1 with a 4.15 ERA.
April 11, 2008
Tim Hudson dominated the Nationals on his way to his second victory of the season as he allowed no runs and just three hits over eight innings for the Braves. Hudson now owns a 2.14 ERA over 21 innings to open the year, and with the uncertain health of John Smoltz, the Braves will need to rely heavily on Hudson this year if they hope to challenge for the division title.
April 10, 2008
Tim Hudson and the Braves won't have to endure a cold Thursday night at Coors Field. The Atlanta Braves pitcher was scheduled to start Thursday's finale of a four-game series against the Colorado Rockies, but the game was postponed until June 16 because of snow. The Braves will keep their rotation in order despite the postponement. Hudson is 0-2 with a 13.00 ERA in two career Coors Field starts. In two starts at Turner Field against the Rockies, he has allowed just three runs in 22 innings. Instead of pitching against the Rockies, Hudson will take the mound at Nationals Park on Friday, where he pitched a stellar opener against Washington.
April 10, 2008
Tim Hudson's next start will be moved to Friday, according to the AP. He was scheduled to pitch today against Colorado, but the game was postponed due to snow. He will face Washington tomorrow instead.
April 5, 2008
Tim Hudson pitched six solid innings on Saturday allowing six hits, no walks and three earned runs to pick up his first victory of the year. Hudson channeled his inner Hudson last year on his way to 16 victories and a 3.33 ERA, and after two starts this season he is right in line with that level of performance.
April 4, 2008
Tim Hudson will pitch Saturday now with Friday's rainout, according to the AP. He'll face John Maine and the Mets.
March 30, 2008
Tim Hudson pitched well in a no decision against Washington on Sunday night in the season opener, as he only allowed two runs on three hits over seven innings, with no walks and three strikeouts. He pitched well enough to win and it is too bad that the Braves couldn't provide adequate run support. His season is off to a good start overall.
March 8, 2008
Tim Hudson will make the spring-training start for Atlanta with the team faces St. Louis on Sunday, according to the Associated Press. Hudson is 1-0 this spring with a 3.60 ERA, though his eight hits allowed in five innings is a tad concerning. With that said, Hudson is working on experimentation with a backdoor slider and continues to work into shape, thus the modest returns are somewhat positive at this early stage of the process.
March 4, 2008
Tim Hudson tested out a new pitch during Tuesday's exhibition contest, according to the AP. "I’ve been trying to develop a backdoor slider on lefties and I ripped off a few good ones," Hudson said. Considering he was trying out a new weapon in his pitching arsenal and still is shaking off the offseason rust, he looked pretty good in the game; Hudson worked three innings and allowed four hits, a walk and a run, while striking out two batters. Hudson was 16-10 with a 3.33 ERA and 1.22 WHIP last season.
February 28, 2008
Tim Hudson got his work in on Thursday as he allowed one run in two innings for the Braves. The team still hasn't announced whether Hudson or John Smoltz will take the ball on opening day, but in truth it really doesn't matter who gets the call. Hudson rebounded last year to record 16 victories with a 3.33 ERA for the Braves and appears to be well on his way to duplicating that performance this season.
February 16, 2008
Braves pitcher John Smoltz believes teammate Tim Hudson should be the Opening Day starter. "You can pretty much pencil Huddy in first — in my opinion that's a no-brainer," Smoltz tells the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. "But it does not matter to me." Hudson responds, "He just doesn't want to pitch against the Nationals." The Braves face the Nats on March 30 and then have a three-game series against the Pirates.
