Newsbreakers
September 20, 2008
Bobby Crosby went 2-for-5 with three runs scored in Saturday's 8-7 win over Seattle. Both of his hits were singles.

Our View:Crosby suffered through a disappointing season, but has now scored a run in four of his last five games.
September 13, 2008
Bobby Crosby led Oakland in Saturday's 7-1 win over Texas, as he went 2-for-4 with three RBI. He hit a single and a double.

Our View:That was his first multi-hit game of September, and reached at least three RBI in a game for the fifth time this season.
September 10, 2008
Former AL Rookie of the Year Bobby Crosby will see his at-bats diminish the rest of the season for Oakland. The 2004 ROY winner has never approached his numbers from that season, and the A’s want to see more of rookie Cliff Pennington at shortstop.

Our View:Pennington is expected to start at short in Wednesday’s series finale against the Tigers.
September 10, 2008
A's shortstop Bobby Crosby will see his playing time lessen as the teams wants to evaluate former first-round pick Cliff Pennington, according to OaklandAthletics.com.

Our View:Crosby is upset, but had he produced more, it is possible he would not be in this position. Crosby has an average of .245 with just seven home runs and 57 RBI. His OBP is right at .300. Pennington has minimal fantasy value, as he has hit .238 in 42 at-bats this season.
August 4, 2008
Bobby Crosby went 2-for-3, and hit a home run to score the A's only run in the team's 6-1 loss to Toronto.

Our View:Crosby was hitting under .194 since July 1, so this little breakout should help fantasy owners who were lacking confidence in him.
August 4, 2008
Bobby Crosby came out of Sunday's game in the eighth inning because he felt dizzy during his at-bat in the seventh and when he ran the bases, according to the SF Chronicle. He said he felt like he needed water while on second base but he didn't have the energy to run to the dugout to get some when the inning concluded.

Our View:Crosby was examined and he said he was feeling better after the game. He was believed to be dehydrated, and the doctor did not find any problems.
July 30, 2008
Bobby Crosby had two hits and two RBI for the Athletics on Wednesday.

Our View:Over the last six games Crosby had only two hits so he certainly needed a big outing at the plate. Crosby is now four games away from his first 100 game season since 2004, but since a hot start to the year the injuries have started to mount which has led to a decline in performance (.200 in July).
July 18, 2008
Bobby Crosby has been activated from the DL after suffering from a left hamstring injury, according to The Sports Network.

Our View:Crosby is having an average year, hitting .260 with four home runs and 38 RBI, and should probably be limited to AL-only fantasy leagues.
July 14, 2008
The A's are optimistic that Bobby Crosby will be ready to be activated from the DL following the All-Star break, according to the SF Chronicle. He is recovering from a strained left hamstring.

Our View:Crosby has been a serviceable option in AL-only leagues, as he is hitting .260 over 84 games, with four homers, 38 RBI, 41 runs scored, and five stolen bases.
July 10, 2008
Bobby Crosby worked out, taking batting practice and running on Wednesday, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. The paper reports he will probably not go on a rehab assignment and could return a week from Friday.

Our View:Crosby isn't a fantasy option in mixed leagues, but in deep AL-only leagues, he has some value. He has shown power in the past, and if he can stay healthy, he could be a second-half sleeper.
July 9, 2008
Bobby Crosby will begin hitting within the next day or two, according to the SF Chronicle. He is recovering from a strained left hamstring.

Our View:The club expects him to be ready to return for their first game following the All-Star break.
July 5, 2008
The A's placed Bobby Crosby on the 15-day DL on Saturday due to a strained left hamstring, MLB.com confirms.

Our View:With the All-Star break coming up, Crosby may miss only nine more games before returning. Donnie Murphy and Gregorio Petit will need to step up their efforts at shortstop.
July 5, 2008
Bobby Crosby is expected to go on the DL on Saturday due to a strained left hamstring, the Contra Costa Times reports.

Our View:It's a miracle that Crosby has lasted this long into the season without a DL stint. This injury sounds minor, and we hope Bobby can return after the All-Star break.
July 3, 2008
Bobby Crosby missed his first game of the season, a 3-2 win over the White Sox, with a strained left hamstring. Crosby told reporters after the game "It's better today. It's a little sore but it's definitely better."

Our View:Crosby is considered day-to-day, but the shortstops relationship with the disabled list is legendary. Any injury is a concern when Crosby is involved.
June 10, 2008
Bobby Crosby is listed as day-to-day due to an ankle injury sustained on Sunday, according to the SF Chronicle.

Our View:He leads the team with 250 at-bats, and Crosby doesn't appear to be headed for the DL. He suffered the injury in the second inning on Sunday, but played six more innings before coming out.
May 28, 2008
Oakland has picked up their 5th win in a row, taking down the Toronto Blue Jays 3-2 despite a rather worrisome offensive performance. The man of the day was shortstop Bobby Crosby , going 1-for-4 on the day with one RBI and one stolen base (his fourth of the season) on the night.

Our View:Oakland managed just seven total hits, only one for extra bases.
April 25, 2008
Bobby Crosby has fared well against Miguel Batista, tonight's opposing pitcher for Seattle, according to MLB.com. Crosby is 5-for-14 lifetime against the Mariners' righty.

Our View:Crosby is among the most productive members of the A's when he is healthy, and he should have another solid outing tonight. He is hitting .297 over 23 games, with 15 RBI and 15 runs scored.
April 18, 2008
Bobby Crosby continued his healthy start to the 2008 season as he went 3-for-4 with three runs scored and five RBI for the A's.

Our View:All Crosby needs to do to be productive is to stay healthy, but that has been something he has been unable to do since 2004, the last time he suited up in more than 96 games.
April 15, 2008
Bobby Crosby has been performing well in the early going this season, but he had a tough day at the plate in a 4-1 loss to Chicago on Tuesday, as he went 0-for-4 with one strikeout, while leaving two men on base.

Our View:Crosby should bounce back fine.
April 12, 2008
Bobby Crosby continued to hit the ball hard as he knocked his first home run of the season on Saturday on his way to three RBI against the Indians.

Our View:Despite all the great numbers, the most important one for Crosby in the early going is zero, as in the number of games he has missed due to injury.
April 12, 2008
Bobby Crosby has reached base safely in all 11 games for Oakland this season, and looks to extend his streak today against hurler Fausto Carmona and the Indians, according to MLB.com.

Our View:He is hitting .326 overall, but he will have to work hard to extend his streak, as Carmona is notably 1-0 with a 0.69 ERA so far.
April 11, 2008
Bobby Crosby raised his batting average to .326 with three hits on Friday for the A's. Crosby has been unable to stay healthy for any length of time the past few years which has obviously stunted his growth. Still, if he can somehow manage to suit up for 130 games this season, he could end up being a great SS/MI play in AL Only leagues.
April 10, 2008
Bobby Crosby is seeing the ball very well right now as he has gone seven games without striking out, which is the longest stretch in his career, according to MLB.com. Crosby has only struck out once overall, in 36 at-bats, and holds a solid .306 average. His fantasy stock will continue to rise.
April 9, 2008
Bobby Crosby continues to swing a hot bat for the A’s and did his part in Oakland’s 6-3 win over Toronto this evening. Crosby went 3-for-5 with two doubles and three RBIs on the evening, failing to leave a single runner on base. Crosby now carries a seasonal batting average of .306 and has four doubles thus far.
April 5, 2008
Bobby Crosby got work done in Oakland's 6-3 win over Cleveland, swinging the wood in what has been a strong start at the plate for the defensive gem. Crosby went 2-for-4 at the plate, posting a double with one RBI and two runs scored. Crosby now carries a batting average of .333, and while we expect that number to come down, the strong start is a great indication of the season ahead for the talented SS.
March 30, 2008
Bobby Crosby ended spring training on a high note as he went 1-for-3 with a solo home run against the Giants on Sunday. He only batted .245 but collected four homers and 10 RBI.
March 26, 2008
By all accounts, Bobby Crosby made it through the game on Wednesday without suffering an injury. He even went 1-for-4 with a double and a run. Crosby has now made it through two straight games without being rushed to the trainer's room, but we have to worry if the fragile infielder will make it through the long airplane ride back to the States without tweaking a calf, thigh, forearm, or back muscle.
March 25, 2008
Bobby Crosby is off to a favorable start as he went 2-for-4 with an RBI in Oakland's season opener against Boston. This is encouraging for him as he only hit .226 over 349 at-bats in 2007.
March 6, 2008
Bobby Crosby, who returned to action on Wednesday from back spasms, also played on Thursday and reported no ill effects, this according to MLB.com. "I'm feeling good, really good; it felt great yesterday," Crosby said. "It was just a blip. Just back spasms, something that seems to happen once a year. It's a two-day thing." Crosby remains an extreme risk given his injury history, but he also remains a player capable of big things if he could stay healthy the entire season.
March 4, 2008
Bobby Crosby missed his second straight game Tuesday due to back spasms, according to MLB.com. "It's something I've experience before, it seems like it's something that happens to me once a year at some point," Crosby said prior to Tuesday's game. "It happened to me last year during Spring Training when I dove for a ball. Hopefully this is the extent of it this year." So long as he returns to action on Tuesday, as is expected, this minor malady should't have any effect on his fantasy value.
March 4, 2008
Bobby Crosby was scratched from Monday's game after experiencing back spasms during infield drills, this according to the San Francisco Chronicle. The injury is not believed to be serious according to manager Bob Geren who said "it's not a big deal." Crosby is considered day-to-day.
March 3, 2008
Bobby Crosby was scratched from Monday's lineup due to back spasms. The issue popped up during pregame warm-ups, MLB.com reports. He is day-to-day.
