Newsbreakers
October 21, 2008
The Tampa Tribune reports that the Rays have discussed dropping Gabe Gross from their World Series roster in favor of Eric Hinske.

Our View:Hinske had a better regular season and is a little more versatile in the field because he can play the corners as well as the outfield. Gross is the better defensive outfielder of the two and hit 13 home runs in 143 at-bats.
October 16, 2008
Tampa Bay will start Gabe Gross in place of Rocco Baldelli on Thursday, according to the Tampa Tribune.

Our View:Gross, a lefty, is 2-for-4 in his career against Red Sox starter Daisuke Matsuzaka, while Baldelli has never faced him, so it's possible that had something to do with it.
June 1, 2008
Gabe Gross did a pretty good job of filling in for a resting Carl Crawford on Sunday. The backup outfielder hit a two-run triple to tie the game at 3-3 in the fifth inning, and he socked a walk-off solo homer in the 10th.

Our View:Gross is a career .095 hitter against southpaws, so of course he hit his triple and his homer off lefties on Sunday. Go figure. He has no fantasy value despite this nice outing.
May 2, 2008
Gabe Gross, recently acquired from the Brewers for right-handed pitcher Josh Butler, is starting in center field for the injured B.J. Upton.

Our View:Gross has played in 23 total games this year with the Brewers and Rays, and his hitting a soft .183 with seven runs scored, three RBI and two stolen bases.
April 22, 2008
Milwaukee OF Gabe Gross continues to take advantage of his time at the plate, going 2-for-4 in today's 8-9 win over St. Louis. The Brewers showed their appreciation right after the game, trading him to the Tampa Bay Rays in exchange for Josh Butler.

Our View:Gross hit two doubles, collected two walks, scored three runs, and stole one base as well, rounding out an excellent day of production for fantasy owners. He has five hits over his last three games with four runs scored and four walks. Now we will see if he can ramp up his efforts in Tampa.
