Beat writer Thomas Harding speculates that Manuel Corpas will open the 2009 season as the Rockies closer with Taylor Buchholz close on his heels, according to the Rockies Official Website.

Our View:Corpas was awful early on and eventually ended the year with a 4.52 ERA, 1.46 WHIP and a 5.65 K/9 mark while Taylor clearly outperformed all of those numbers (2.17 ERA, 0.95 WHIP and a 7.60 K/9). However, Corpas was the teams choice at the start of 2008 so it only figures that they would give him another shot in 2009.

Rockies setup man Taylor Buchholz will miss the remainder of the season with an injured shoulder. Buchholz said he will get an MRI in the next few days, according to the Denver Post.

Our View:Buchholz was having a breakout year out of the Rockies pen with an ERA of 2.17 and a WHIP of 0.95.

Taylor Buchholz took the loss on Tuesday night against the Braves but the way the game ended was quite odd. With runners on second and third Buchholz committed a balk and that forced home the winning run.

Our View:Buchholz has had a good year number wise but has no real fantasy value.
June 29, 2008
Taylor Buchholz pitched a scoreless inning on Sunday afternoon against the Tigers. He hasn't allowed a run in his last 10 appearances and now holds a 1.36 ERA over 35 appearances.

Our View:Taylor has really taken a liking to life in the bullpen. Brian Fuentes is a potential trade candidate for the July 31 deadline, and Buchholz could end up saving games over the final couple months.
May 4, 2008
Taylor Buchholz registered his first career save on Sunday night. The right-hander entered a 6-2 contest in the eighth inning with two runners on base. He closed out that frame and worked a spotless ninth after the Rockies opened up the lead to 7-2.

Our View:No, Buchholz is not the new closer. Brian Fuentes still has the job, and he wouldn't have gotten a save if he replaced Buchholz in the ninth.
