It may be a bit early, but the Angels are optimistic Ervin Santana could be ready to take over a starting rotation spot by 2005 with the contracts of Aaron Sele and Kevin Appier expiring after the 2004 season, according to the Los Angeles Times. The 20 year-old is currently leading the minor leagues with 119 strikeouts in 115.2 innings pitched at Single-A Rancho Cucamonga. Santana also has a 9-1 record and a 2.33 ERA.

Although Johan Santana is headed back to the bullpen with the arrival of Kenny Rogers in Minnesota, he may still get a couple of starts when the season gets underway; the Twins won't want to rush Rogers into the mix, according to the Star-Tribune.
