Newsbreakers
October 5, 2008
James Loney went 1-for-4 with a two-run double in Saturday's 3-1 win over the Cubs in Game 3 of the NLDS at Dodger Stadium.

Our View:The Dodgers swept the Cubs 3-0 and will await the winner of the other series between Philadelphia and Milwaukee. Loney only hit .214, but collected six RBI over the three wins.
October 1, 2008
James Loney hit a grand slam on his only hit of the night as the Dodgers took home field advantage from the Cubs in a 7-2 victory on Wednesday.

Our View:The shot came in the fifth off of Ryan Dempster and put the Dodgers ahead for good. Loney had 13 regular season homers in 161 games.
September 15, 2008
James Loney went 2-for-4 with three RBI in Monday's win over the Pirates.

Our View:Loney could end this season at .300 and with around 100 RBI, but it hasn't been the breakout year fantasy owners envisioned. The first baseman simply hasn't developed much power yet. Loney is only 24, though, so maybe he can grow into more homers next year.
September 12, 2008
James Loney stepped into the lineup after lefthander Jeff Francis was pulled and went 2-for-2 with three RBI on Friday night.

Our View:Manager Joe Torre may continue to start Nomar Garciaparra against lefties as Loney has struggled against them in the second half of the season.
August 30, 2008
James Loney went 1-for-4 with an RBI in Friday's 9-3 loss to Arizona. His hit was a single.

Our View:Loney maintains a .300 batting average, and has extended his hitting streak to nine games, with five RBI over the span.
August 21, 2008
James Loney returned to the Dodgers lineup today and sparked the offense with a home run and two RBIs to help the Dodgers defeat the visiting Rockies 3-1.

Our View:The arrival of ManRam has changed the face of this offense, expect Loney to continue hitting for average with plenty of opportunities for RBIs.
August 20, 2008
James Loney is not in tonight's starting lineup for the Los Angeles Dodgers, according to the Los Angeles Daily News. The team will square off against the Colorado Rockies and hurler Jeff Francis.

Our View:Nothing serious like an injury, it's just that Loney is 1-for-15 in his career against Francis, including fire strikeouts.
August 12, 2008
James Loney had three hits and three RBI on Monday night as Matt Kemp also had three hits for the Dodgers.

Our View:Loney has slid under the radar this year because of his lack of long ball power (nine home runs), but he is hitting .299 with 67 RBI, and those clearly are passable totals.
July 21, 2008
James Loney led the Dodgers in their 16-10 romp over the Rockies on Monday. The first baseman went 3-for-6 with a triple, two runs, and five RBI.

Our View:Loney hasn't emerged as hoped this year, but we can't forget that he hit .316-12-51 in 72 games after the break last year.
July 20, 2008
The Dodgers struggled to get to Brandon Webb today, but they found the offense needed against relief pitching to earn the 6-5 win over Arizona with a five-run flurry in the top of the ninth. The effort was led by first baseman James Loney , going 3-for-4 with his 26th double of the season to post two runs scored on the night.

Our View:Outfielder Andre Ethier hit a homer to get the Diamondbacks going in the right direction late in that game, but Loney set the tone by showing the Dodgers had hits to chase. He needed a lift, hitting just .267 with two homers and 10 RBIs this month.
July 6, 2008
James Loney went 2-for-4 with three RBI on Sunday.

Our View:Loney has remained a consistent force in fantasy and should continue throughout the second half. His seven home runs are disappointing, but his .302 average and 47 RBI provide plenty of value.
June 26, 2008
James Loney went 0-for-4 on Thursday to end his 12-game hitting streak. Loney hit .400 during the streak going 20-for-50.

Our View:Loney is hitting .383 for the month of June as he has reached base via a hit in 21 of 23 contests. He could still stand to knock the ball for a bit more power, but through 734 career AB he owns a .316 average, more than enough to cover up for less than ideal power at a corner infield spot.
June 25, 2008
James Loney extended his hitting streak to 12-games on Wednesday night with a single in four trips to the plate. He also stole his third base of the season.

Our View:Loney is hitting .020 points higher than vaunted offensive force Matt Kemp (.310 to .290), though he lacks Kemp's athleticism and all-around game. Still, Loney has the makings of a solid corner infielder in mixed leagues.
June 22, 2008
James Loney had two hits on Sunday to extend his hitting streak to 10-games. He is now hitting .310 with 39 RBI on the year.

Our View:Loney still hasn't developed the power which is looked for in most first basemen, but that doesn't mean he can't be an effective hitter worthy of consideration in mixed leagues.
June 18, 2008
The Dodgers posted a nice offensive showing this evening, winning 6-1 over the Cincinnati Reds. The effort was led by first baseman James Loney , going 2-for-3 with a walk and his sixth home run of the season, totaling two RBIs and one runs scored on the night.

Our View:Loney is playing a major role for the Dodgers and is getting it done at the plate, hitting .380 this month (though his three RBIs over that spand leaves little to be desired).
May 20, 2008
James Loney has now hit safely in 12 of his last fourteen games, and he is hitting .314 with one home run and three RBI during that span.

Our View:Loney has 20 runs, 28 RBI, one stolen base and is hitting .287 on the season. Respectable numbers from a young player that will only get better.
May 17, 2008
James Loney is riding a nine-game hitting streak and will try to extend it to 10 today against undefeated hurler Ervin Santana (6-0) and the Angels, according to MLB.com.

Our View:Loney has three multi-hit games over the streak, with five runs scored. He raised his batting average to .290 and his fantasy stock remains on the rise.
May 3, 2008
James Loney went 2-for-5 and racked up six RBI in Saturday's 12-7 win over Colorado. He hit a three-run homer and a double.

Our View:Loney is hitting .276 and has recorded 25 RBI over 30 games this season. His fantasy stock will continue to rise.
May 1, 2008
James Loney sat out at first base in favor of Mark Sweeney today, according to MLB.com. Manager Joe Torre just wanted to get Sweeney some at-bats and practice for his pinch-hitting duties.

Our View:Loney cooled off following a hot start, but he is still having a good season overall, as he holds a .283 average over 27 games, with two homers and 19 RBI.
April 20, 2008
After starting the season on fire, and recording a career best 12-game hitting streak, James Loney was 0-for-12 with five strikeouts in a series sweep by the Braves.

Our View:Loney failed on a number of occasions to assist the Dodgers offense. He struck out when all he need to do was put the ball in play and left more than 10 runners in scoring position during the series.
April 14, 2008
James Loney is riding a career-best 12-game hit streak, and will look to extend it tonight against lefty Zach Duke and the Pirates, according to MLB.com.

Our View:He is hitting 17-for-44 overall, and Duke holds a solid 2.13 ERA. This should be a good match-up to follow.
April 9, 2008
James Loney hit his first home run of the season on Wednesday. The Dodgers first baseman has now scored four runs and registered three RBI in the first week and a half of the '08 campaign.
March 31, 2008
James Loney was 2-for-3 with a walk and a run scored in the Dodgers shutout win over the Giants on Monday. Loney is a true sleeper. The first baseman has a good shot at out producing his ADP this summer.
March 30, 2008
James Loney had a tough day at the plate in the spring training finale against Boston on Sunday as he went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts, while leaving three men on base. The Dodgers' starting first baseman ended spring training with a .258 batting average and hopefully he can bounce back in the team's season opener.
