Newsbreakers
September 25, 2008
The Twins took the lead in the AL Central with a four-game sweep over the White Sox and on Thursday night. Denard Span was a key in the Twins' 8-7 extra inning win. Span was 3-for-4 with three RBI and his sixth triple of the year.

Our View:Span has been a solid fantasy option this year with a .299 average, .385 on-base percentage and 46 RBI.
September 20, 2008
Twins outfielder Denard Span has scored 52 runs since the All-Star break, which leads all rookies and is second in all of baseball to Detroit's Curtis Granderson during that time, according to the Minneapolis Star-Tribune.

Our View:Span has been a very solid fantasy option, as the above note indicates. He has a good average (.301) and on-base percentage (.391) to go along with his 17 stolen bases and 65 runs scored.
September 13, 2008
Denard Span went 2-for-5 with four RBI in Saturday's 12-2 win over Baltimore at Camden Yards. Both of his hits were homers, the second of which was a three-run shot.

Our View:Span recorded multiple hits in five of his last six games, and registered his first homers of September.
September 10, 2008
Denard Span has hit the proverbial "rookie wall" of late, but he will continue to push to make it through it as the Twins push for a playoff spot, according to the Twins Official Website.

Our View:Span hit just .214 over 10 games and has made a couple of mental errors as well before going 7-for-14 the past three games with six runs scored. Looks like he has run right through that wall and come out alright.
August 30, 2008
Denard Span went 1-for-3 with a two-run homer in Saturday's 3-2 loss to Oakland.

Our View:Span has recorded two RBI in back-to-games, and in three of his last four. He looks to remain solid heading into September.
August 28, 2008
Denard Span had a hit, scored a run, and stole his 13th base of the season for the Twins on Thursday night.

Our View:Span continues to be a spark plug at the top of the order for the Twins even on nights when the team doesn't score many runs. Given his track record some regression seems likely, but he has been one heck of a pick up this season.
August 27, 2008
Rookie outfielder Denard Span led the way for the Minnesota offense in their 6-5 win over the Mariners, goig 2-for-5 at the plate with his 13th double of the season to card two RBIs on the day.

Our View:Span has proven valuable for the runs scored category, posting 20 in July with an additional 16 thus far in August. He's hit over .300 in each of those months, doing what a leadoff man is suppose to do.
August 23, 2008
Denard Span had a good night for the Twins in their 9-0 win over the Angels. Span went 3-for-5 with a home run and four RBI.

Our View:Span is hitting .325 on the season, including a .349 mark in August. He can steal a base and has an OBP over .400, so his fantasy prospects are immense for the remainder of the year.
August 11, 2008
Denard Span continued to provide offense from the top of the Twins batting order with a hit, two runs scored and his eighth stolen base of the year.

Our View:There was a chance that Span could lose some playing time to a healthy Michael Cuddyer, but since he suffered a broken foot during his rehab assignment, it now appears that Span will continue to play on a regular basis for the Twins.
August 3, 2008
Denard Span had two hits, two runs scored and and RBI for the Twins from the leadoff spot on Sunday. One of the two hits was his second home run of the season.

Our View:Reports are that Michael Cuddyer is about a week away from returning, at which point AB will become scarce. The team will continue to roll with Span, Carlos Gomez and Jason Kubel, though it would appear that only two of those might be in the lineup on any given night.
July 31, 2008
In a pretty remarkable feat, Minnesota's Denard Span went 0-for-3 with one walk, yet still managed to score three runs in the Twins 10-6 victory over the White Sox.

Our View:So how did he do it? Span reached base on the aforementioned walk, along with reaching on a fielder's choice and throwing error.
July 28, 2008
Denard Span hit his first major league home run on Monday off of Mark Buerhle. It was his only hit of the night.

Our View:Span is a solid fantasy player as long as he's leading off in Minnesota. Thru 35 games, he has 19 runs, 11 RBI, three triples and five stolen bases. He has walked 16 times vs. 18 strikeouts.
July 25, 2008
Denard Span picked up three hits in four at-bats, and is now hitting .344 on the season, and .377 in July.

Our View:Span is scorching right now, and any fantasy owner needing a boost in batting average should grab him. He won't provide power, but he has decent speed with five stolen bases, and as long as he stays hot he is a useful fantasy option.
July 22, 2008
The Minneapolis-St. Paul Star Tribune reports that Denard Span has been moved to the leadoff spot. Carlos Gomez will bat ninth.

Our View:Span has hit .370 since being called up on June 30 and he has a .424 OBP on the year. He has five steals in 29 games. Span is worth keeping an eye on for the red hot Twins.
July 10, 2008
Denard Span stole his fifth base of the season on Thursday, though it was his 4-for-4 outing at the plate that really opened some eyes.

Our View:Carlos Gomez went 0-for-4 to drop his average to .260, and Span could begin to eat into some of his playing time if Gomez doesn't bring up that sub .300 OBP soon especially considering that since Span has been recalled he has hits in nine of 10 games.
June 29, 2008
Denard Span has been recalled from Triple-A Rochester, according to the AP. The team placed outfielder Michael Cuddyer on the 15-day DL as a corresponding move.

Our View:Span batted .342 with three home runs and 14 RBI over 39 games with Rochester. He hit .258 with no homers and two RBI over 31 at-bats with the Twins in his previous stint this season, and all eight of his hits were singles. He did have three steals, but is not worth targeting.
June 21, 2008
Denard Span has gotten off to a hot start at Triple-A Rochester since being activated from the DL, going 8-for-12 with four RBI in his first three games. The speedster, who was out with a broken finger, is making a case to be called up to spell Carlos Gomez in center and get a few starts as a corner outfielder, according to the Minneapolis Star-Tribune.

Our View:Span offers very little at the plate, but he wouldn't be a bad guy to stash away in AL-only leagues if you're looking for some cheap steals.
May 21, 2008
Outfielder Denard Span is out with a broken finger on his left hand at Triple-A Rochester, according to the Star-Tribune. He is expected to be out a month.

Our View:Span is batting .327 with a .431 on-base percentage at Rochester, and the Twins briefly considered calling him up over the weekend when Carlos Gomez injured his wrist. He lost out to Gomez for the starting gig in center field in spring training.
April 25, 2008
As expected, Denard Span has been sent down to the minors, according to MLB.com. The team made the move to free up a roster spot for Michael Cuddyer, who has been activated from the DL following his bout with a finger injury.

Our View:Span went 8-for-31 with two RBI and three stolen bases during his time to prove his worth with the Twins. It wasn't a bad stint for him, but he will have to wait for another chance to play in the big leagues.
April 23, 2008
Denard Span is expected to start in right field tonight against Oakland, according to MLB.com. Manager Ron Gardenhire wants to get him more at-bats before Michael Cuddyer comes off the DL on Friday, which will likely send Span back down to the minors to free up a roster spot.

Our View:Span registered six hits over 27 at-bats (.222 average), with two RBI, three stolen bases, and six strikeouts. It wasn't a bad stint for him, and he will look to prove his worth in his remaining chances before getting sent back down. He has a future in the big leagues, but will have to wait for his turn.
April 4, 2008
The Twins recalled Denard Span from Triple-A Rochester Friday to replace the injured Michael Cuddyer on the roster. Span lost out on the starting center field job in spring training to Carlos Gomez. Span should back up at all three outfield spot, but expect Craig Monroe to get the bulk of time in left field.
