September 21, 2008
Jeremy Guthrie will have his next turn in the rotation skipped due to his shoulder issues, according to the Orioles Official Website. Alfredo Simon will start the second game of the Orioles double header with the Rays.

September 20, 2008

Our View:Guthrie has been dealing with shoulder fatigue, and may choose to play it safe with their best pitcher. The team is completely out of any playoff race, so the smart thing to do may be shut him down for the year.

September 15, 2008

September 14, 2008
The Washington Post reports Guthrie (tired arm) is hoping to throw a side session this week and return before the end of the season.

Our View:Until Guthrie is officially done for the year, he is worth hanging onto in fantasy leagues.
September 12, 2008
The Baltimore Sun reports that Orioles' manager Dave Trembley is getting close to shutting down starter Jeremy Guthrie for the year. Guthrie hasn't pitched in a couple of weeks, so he would have to have a sideline workout before making another start. Trembley said if that hasn't happened by the time the Orioles get to Toronto next week, that will probably be it for Guthrie in 2008.

Our View:In Guthrie's two major league seasons with Baltimore his numbers look good but his record represents the type of team he is stuck on. His ERA is just 3.63 but his record is a meager 17-16 despite 55 starts.
September 11, 2008

September 11, 2008

Our View:Guthrie has already thrown a career-high 186.2 innings, so the Orioles will certainly not rush him back to the hill. If this situation lasts into next week, the team might as well shut him down to avoid damaging the arm of their best hurler.
September 10, 2008
Orioles pitcher Jeremy Guthrie missed his last start with tonsillitis, but he is also dealing with a tired right shoulder and may miss his next start, according to the Baltimore Sun.

August 18, 2008
Jeremy Guthrie walked five batters Monday but still managed a solid outing, giving up two runs and five hits while striking out four over seven innings. He was outdueled by Jon Lester, though, and picked up his ninth loss.

August 9, 2008
Orioles pitcher Jeremy Guthrie has been on fire as of late, and in his last three starts he is 3-0 with a 1.21 ERA, according to the Washington Times. “The guy's getting recognized as a legitimate, top-of-the-rotation guy for any team in the big leagues," O's manager Dave Trembley said.

Our View:People pay little attention to Guthrie, but it will be hard for fantasy owners to ignore his over 3.26 ERA and 1.17 WHIP.
August 8, 2008
Jeremy Guthrie allowed just one run in over seven innings on Friday night as he and the Orioles defeated the Rangers 9-1.

Our View:Guthrie continues to be one of the most unheralded hurlers in the league despite a 9-8 record. With the victory Guthrie lowered his ERA to 3.26 and his WHIP to 1.17, standout numbers for a guy who gets little love.
August 2, 2008
Jeremy Guthrie was dominant on the hill in Saturday's 3-1 win over the Mariners, as he only allowed one earned run on four hits over nine innings, with one walk and two strikeouts.

Our View:He evened his record to 8-8 and notched his first complete game of the season. He has only allowed one earned run in back-to-back starts, and should remain active in fantasy lineups for the upcoming week.
July 28, 2008

Our View:Guthrie's ERA is a mere 3.52 but he carries a 6-8 record thru 22 starts. Such is the life of an Orioles pitcher.
July 18, 2008
Baltimore RHP Jeremy Guthrie wasn't terribly impressive on the mound this evening, but he pitched well enough to get his Orioles the 7-4 win over Detroit. Guthrie pitched six innings, allowing four runs (all earned) on 12 hits with two walks and five strikeouts.

Our View:That's three wins and two no-decisions for Guthrie over his last five starts. However, in all three wins he has surrended four earned runs.
July 10, 2008
Jeremy Guthrie wasn't involved in the decision on Thursday, but he still held the Blue Jays to two runs, one earned, over seven innings.

Our View:Guthrie has only five wins on the year, but he has been one of the most solid AL starting pitchers this season with a 3.49 ERA and 1.19 WHIP. Guthrie continues to operate as a below the radar innings eater worthy of running out there every start.
July 4, 2008
Jeremy Guthrie allowed four earned runs on eight hits over 6.1 innings in Friday's 10-4 win over Texas at Camden Yards, with two walks and six strikeouts.

Our View:Guthrie improves to 5-7, and is 2-0 over his last four starts.

The Orioles have shifted around their rotation for the coming week. Jeremy Guthrie will start on Thursday, followed by Brian Burres, Radhames Liz, and Daniel Cabrera the next three nights, MLB.com reports. The move comes after Monday's off-day.

Our View:This news shouldn't affect too many fantasy owners' plans.
June 7, 2008

June 2, 2008
Jeremy Guthrie had another sharp outing on Monday. He held the Red Sox scoreless for five innings before allowing a run in the sixth and seven frames. Guthrie finished with eight hits and two runs served up over 6.1 innings, but he took a no-decision. It was his fifth straight quality start.

Our View:The run support for Guthrie has been terrible this year. The Orioles scored 2, 0, and 1 runs in his previous three showings, and they waited until the eighth inning to get hot on Monday. Guthrie is a decent back-end option in larger mixed leagues despite the 2-6 record.
June 2, 2008
Jeremy Guthrie is pitching well, despite his 2-6 record, according to MLB.com. He holds a 3.64 ERA and a good 1.21 WHIP, and will make his 13th start of the season tonight when the Orioles host the Red Sox.

Our View:Guthrie has allowed three earned runs or less in nine of his 12 starts, but the Orioles have scored a total of eight runs in his six losses.
May 18, 2008

May 7, 2008
Jeremy Guthrie picked up the no-decision on Wednesday as he allowed four runs over 5.2 innings to the A's. Guthrie struck out six while allowing eight base runners.

Our View:Guthrie had gone six straight starts allowing three or less runs, and this was the fourth straight time he has put up at least five K. Look for him to continue to post solid but unremarkable numbers.
April 27, 2008

Jeremy Guthrie received a no-decision on Friday night despite limiting the Rays to two runs in 6.1 innings. Guthrie lowered his ERA to 4.34 on this night though he continues to allow far too many base runners to be successful long term as evidenced by his 1.45 WHIP through 18.2 innings.

March 21, 2008
Jeremy Guthrie struggled on Friday as he allowed four runs and eight hits in just 4.2 innings in his first game in nine days, this according to the AP. “I was a little rusty out there, but for the most part I threw strikes,” Guthrie said. “I had a tough time putting a couple guys away and that led to a couple hits, but not walking anybody was real good." Guthrie is about as good a starter as the Orioles have this season, but his production this season is a big time concern after he fell apart after the all-star break (5.03 ERA, 1.62 WHIP) last year.
January 17, 2008
Jeremy Guthrie agreed to a one-year, $770,000 contract with the Orioles on Wednesday. Guthrie sported a fine 3.70 ERA and 1.21 WHIP in 32 games (26 starts) in 2007, but a 5.03 ERA and 1.62 WHIP in the second half last year is certainly cause for concern.
