If the Braves don't end up trading for Jake Peavy, they could turn their attention to Matt Cain, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution's David O'Brien suggests. Atlanta is viewed as the favorites for Peavy, but they are also reportedly growing impatient with the Padres.

Our View:Giants GM Brian Sabean said recently that Cain is untouchable, but we all know that's never really the case. That said, it does seem like a longshot he would be dealt to Hotlanta.
November 6, 2008
The Giants have indicated that Matt Cain is not available on the trade market, according to the SF Chronicle. When GM Brian Sabean was asked if Cain is untouchable, Sabean answered, "Yes. Clubs know that. That hasn't necessarily discouraged clubs from inquiring or making suggestions of offers. But we don't see anything out there that gives us a net gain by losing him."

Our View:Sabean is still looking for offensive and pitching help, but Cain is not a trading chip.

Despite rumors that the club might move him to attain a power hitter, Matt Cain isn't going anywhere, according to The Mercury News. "Matty, at 23, pitched like a Cy Young at times," GM Brian Sabean said "I don't think it'll take trading Matt Cain to get something done."

Our View:The Giants were tempted to move Tim Lincecum last off-season for a hitter (Alex Rios) and also resisted the urge to add a bat that way. Cain had his second straight solid season (3.76 ERA, 186 K) despite a poor record (8-14), and he appears to still have the full support of the Giants front office.
September 21, 2008
Matt Cain threw six shutout innings on Sunday against the Dodgers though he left the game with a no-decision as the Giants failed to score against Derk Lowe.

Our View:Cain has allowed just two runs in his last two starts leading to a 1.38 ERA, but his record is 0-1. Whenever Cain takes the hill the Giants will not score, you can almost bank on it. Perhaps the U.S. government should invest in that position if they are looking for something stable for investments.
September 21, 2008
Giants pitcher Matt Cain will attempt to get his first career win against the Los Angeles Dodgers when he toes the rubber against them Sunday, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

Our View:With the team's being division rivals, you would expect Cain to have at least one win. But in four starts against them this season, Cain is 0-2 with a 3.51 ERA.
