Newsbreakers
November 3, 2008
Dan Meyer has been claimed off waivers by the Marlins, according to the Associated Press.

Our View:Meyer has played parts of three seasons in the majors with Atlanta and Oakland. He is 0-6 lifetime with an ERA of 7.63 over 19 games, including seven starts. He will not likely push for a role in the Marlins' rotation next season.
September 7, 2008
The Oakland Tribune reports that Meyer will be demoted to long relief with Sean Gallagher returning to the starting rotation this week.

Our View:He has struggled for the A's this season and is not a fantasy commodity for the short term.
September 4, 2008
Dan Meyer had a rough outing on Thursday night as he was pounded for eight runs, seven earned, in the Athletics 9-6 loss to the Royals. Meyer allowed nine hits and two walks while recording just 10 outs.

Our View:Meyer has allowed 22 runs over 13 innings spanning his last four appearances, and that's good for a 15.23 ERA folks. Stay far away from this lefty, he is totally lost at the moment as he has been for his entire major league career.
September 1, 2008
Oakland pitcher Dan Meyer, recently optioned to the minor leagues, will return on Thursday to make a start against the Royals, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

Our View:Meyer has been awful this year, with an ERA of 6.33 and has allowed five home runs in 21.1 innings. His control has been poor as well, as he has averaged 4.64 BB/9.
August 30, 2008
Dan Meyer has been optioned to Double-A Midland, according to the AP. Andrew Brown has also been transferred from the 15 to the 60-day DL.

Our View:Meyer went 0-3 with a 6.33 ERA in eight games (three starts) over two stints with Oakland this season.
August 17, 2008
The A's optioned left-handed pitcher Dan Meyer to Triple-A Sacramento following Sunday's 13-1 loss to the White Sox, according to MLB.com.

Our View:It was a short stint for Meyer, who was recalled from Sacramento on August 3rd. The reliever allowed nine runs over 14 2/3 innings in six appearances for the A's.
August 6, 2008
Dan Meyer will start in place of the injured Sean Gallagher on Saturday, according to the AP. He tossed four scoreless innings in relief of Gallagher on Monday.

Our View:Meyer was once a top prospect, but he doesn't belong anywhere near your fantasy roster these days.
August 4, 2008
Dan Meyer has returned to the Oakland A's as a reliever, and he has yet to give up an earned run after throwing four shutout innings against Toronto. Meyer allowed four hits but did not walk anyone while striking out three.

Our View:As a reliever, Meyer's fantasy value is small, but if he starts and these type of performances continue, that may change.
April 16, 2008
Dan Meyer threw six no-hit innings for his first win of the season at Triple-A Sacramento. He walked two batters and struck out four.

Our View:With the emergence of Greg Smith in the majors and the presence of top prospect Gio Gonzalez at Triple-A, it is easy to forget about Meyer. Still, Meyer made a strong rebound in the minors last season (3.39 ERA in 22 starts) after suffering through injuries in recent seasons, and he continues to show that he is worth watching for the future. The lefty may not have the upside that made him the centerpiece of the Tim Hudson trade, but he could still have a future as a back of the rotation starter.
