The Kansas City Star reports that the Royals are not seeking to trade Mark Teahen. GM Dayton Moore said on Sunday, “We’re trying to build a championship team. And to build a championship team, you’ve got to have multiple options with your team. Mark gives us those options. So he’s very valuable to us.”

Our View:Since acquiring Coco Crisp, rumors have circulated around Teahen. The Royals seem to have excess outfielders and a deal to move one of them might make sense.
November 24, 2008
The Cubs are revisiting a deal for Mark Teahen, according to MLB.com. The Royals are interested in second baseman Mike Fontenot and pitcher Sean Marshall in a potential trade.

Our View:Teahen would provide manager Lou Piniella with a left-handed bat that he covets, and also has the versatility to play left and right field, as well as both corner infield spots. Teahen's RBI total would improve while hitting in a solid Cubs' lineup, and his power numbers would likely increase as well while playing his home games at Wrigley Field.
November 18, 2008
The Chicago Cubs signed Ryan Dempster on Tuesday and have said to be interested in Rafael Furcal and Jake Peavy. Now there are reports that Mark Teahen may be on the Cubs radar, according to the Kansas City Star.

Our View:Earlier this off-season there was talk about a trade that would send Teahen to the Indians. The Royals said that it would absolutely not happen. So a trade to the Cubs will probably be a remote possibility.
October 28, 2008
Royals' GM Dayton Moore commented that the news circulating that Mark Teahen was being considered for a trade to the Indians was merely a rumor, according to MLB.com. Moore said, "That's an absolute lie, an absolute lie. It's a lie."

Our View:It was initially reported that trade talks between the Royals and Indians centered around Teahen coming to Cleveland and moving to his natural position at third base after two seasons in the Royals' outfield, and the Indians sending one of three outfielders: Franklin Gutierrez, Ben Francisco or minor leaguer Trevor Crowe to the Royals.
October 26, 2008
The Kansas City Star reports that the Royals and Indians are discussing a deal involving Mark Teahen. Other players in the deal may include either Franklin Gutierrez, Ben Francisco or minor-leaguer Trevor Crowe.

Our View:Teahen has been mostly disappointing after the Royals had expected bigger things from the third baseman. The Indians have a hole at the hot-corner and would like to fill it sooner rather than later.
September 13, 2008
Mark Teahen went 2-for-5 with two RBI and two runs scored in Saturday's 8-4 win over Cleveland in the nightcap of the doubleheader. Both of his knocks were solo homers.

Our View:Teahen has registered two hits in five of his last seven games and collected his first homers of September. He has been quiet for most of the season, but is enjoying a strong final month, and is worth a look in AL-only leagues.
September 10, 2008
Mark Teahen was the only Royal to have multiple hits against the Twins Wednesday night. Teahen was 2-for-3, which included his 25th double of the year.

Our View:Teahen has had multi-hit games in three of his last four games and is trying to raise his average from .243. Even though Teahen is starting to hit a little better he is probably not going to be a good option for any type of fantasy team.
August 30, 2008
Mark Teahen went 2-for-5 with two RBI and two runs scored in Saturday's 13-3 win over the Tigers at Comerica Park. He hit a double and a solo homer.

Our View:Teahen has homered in back-to-back games and could be headed for a solid final month of the season in the power department.
August 23, 2008
Mark Teahen is back at third base while covering for the injured Alex Gordon, according to the KC Star. Manager Trey Hillman said, "It’s his old position, but it’s new to him this year. We will see how it goes. He worked on it a little bit in Chicago. He looked pretty natural over there. I’d like to see what T can do at his old position."

Our View:The last time he roamed third base was September 5, 2006. Teahen could see extended action at the hot corner as Gordon may be out for a couple of weeks. As a fantasy performer, Teahen could provide flexibility to use as a corner infielder in deeper AL-only leagues if needed.
August 21, 2008
Mark Teahen went 1-for-2 and collected two RBI in Thursday's 10-3 loss to Cleveland. His hit was a double, his 22nd of the season.

Our View:Teahen ended an 0-for-10 skid over his previous three games.
July 25, 2008
Mark Teahen was not in Thursday's lineup as he is dealing with soreness in his back and hamstring, according to the KC Star. Manager Trey Hillman said, "He’s not feeling too good, so we’ll let that settle down."

Our View:Consider him day-to-day.
July 10, 2008
Mark Teahen had two hits including his 10th home run, an inside the park job, for the Royals on Thursday night.

Our View:Teahen has had a down year with an ordinary .255 average and a middling 32 RBI in 326 AB. He is a fine AL only option as he continues to pile up the at-bats, but you must be pretty desperate if you are relying on him in mixed leagues.
July 6, 2008
Mark Teahen needed a day off on Saturday, and he wasn't in the lineup for the first time since June 14, according to the Kansas City Star. Skipper Trey Hillman said, "There’s not anything glaring with Mark Teahen right now. I just felt like he needed a day mentally as well as physically right now."

Our View:Teahen has only notched one hit in his last 11 at-bats, and is batting .196 over his last 14 games. Hopefully the day off will help his production.
June 23, 2008
Mark Teahen hit a three-run homer in the Royals' 8-4 win over the Rockies. It's his fifth homer this month.

Our View:Teahen's eight homers are already more than he produced all of last year. Hopefully he'll go back to showing that 20-homer potential that he showed in 2006.
June 19, 2008
Mark Teahen missed the cycle by a double and had three RBI in the Royals 4-1 win over the Cardinals on Thursday afternoon.

Our View:Teahen is beginning to produce a more consistent power stroke. The home run was only his seventh in 258 at-bats, but he recently hit three home runs in three games when the Royals visited Comerica Park.
May 27, 2008
The Kansas City Royals have suffered their ninth consecutive loss this evening, falling at home to the Minnesota Twins 4-3. However, first baseman Mark Teahen showed signs of life this evening, hitting 2-for-5 with his seventh double as well as his third home run, all totaling three RBIs and one run scored.

Our View:Teahen came into the game hoping to improve his struggling .208 batting average through the month of May. He nearly doubled his RBI production for the month in one day.
May 26, 2008
Mark Teahen broke his 0-for-19 slump with a single in the fourth inning on Monday. The Royals outfielder is hitting .243 on the season with two home runs, 12 RBI and 18 runs scored.

Our View:The Royals have very little power in their lineup. Teahen hasn't progressed since his double-digit home run season in 2006, and the young bats of Alex Gordon and Billy Butler have combined for six home runs in 51 games this year.
May 23, 2008
Mark Teahen made a one-day appearance at first base on Wednesday before jogging back out to right field on Thursday. However, manager Trey Hillman might shift Teahan back to first more often. "I like the possibilities of that lineup for run production, and I like the defense," Hillman tells the Kansas City Star. "It gives us a little more speed." With Teahan at first, Joey Gathright starts in right and Billy Butler shifts to DH.

Our View:If a move back to the infield wakes up Teahen's bat, we're all for it. He doesn't have much fantasy value right now, no matter where he lines up.
May 18, 2008
Royals outfielder Mark Teahen enjoyed a strong day at the plate in support of Kansas City's 9-3 win over Florida. Teahen went 1-for-4 with walk and his second home run of the season, good for two RBIs as well as a stolen base (his first) and two runs scored on the day.

Our View:Teahen is holding steady at the .268 mark for batting average, a number he has not gotten far from (positively or negatively) since the start of the season.
April 4, 2008
Mark Teahen went 2-for-4 with a solo homer and a single in Thursday's win over the Tigers. The long ball is a good sign for a hitter who managed only two bombs after the All-Star break in 2007. Teahen wrapped up the series against the Tigers at 4-for-11 with two extra-base hits, two runs, and two RBI.
March 8, 2008
Mark Teahen was back in the mix for Friday's game, working as the DH, according to the KC Star. "See," he said, "we were telling the truth when we said it was no big deal." Teahan had taken a couple of days off from hitting to rest a sore forearm. It appears that it really was no big deal after all.
March 6, 2008
Outfielder Mark Teahen skipped batting practice for a second straight day, according to the KC Star. Teahan was held out of Wednesday's work after telling the training staff his sore forearm was still bothering him. “He came in feeling better today,” Hillman said, “but he’s going to take the day off from swinging today and concentrate on defense. We’ll put the bat back in his hands (Friday) and see what happens.” Hillman told the Star that Teahen probably won’t return to the lineup before Saturday.
March 5, 2008
Mark Teahen couldn't bear to play on Wednesday due to general soreness. “He is a little sore from all of the hitting he’s done,” manager Trey Hillman informs the Kansas City Star. “He’s staying back, taking it easy with his hitting today and work on his defense.”
February 23, 2008
Mark Teahen's power stroke faded last season, but he points to offseason shoulder surgery as the root cause and believes he'll regain his power in 2008, according to the KC Star. "I feel like I had a successful year outside of the home-run numbers," said Teahen. "I’m looking forward to getting into this year because I know what I need to do to keep my legs healthy. I also was able to lift weights all winter. So I assume it will be like it was (in 2006)." Teahan's right that outside of his homers dropping off from 18 in 393 at-bats in 2006 to seven in 544 at-bats in 2007, he posted decent numbers like a .285 batting average and 78 runs. So we could see a real breakout this year.
February 8, 2008
The Royals avoided going to arbitration with Mark Teahen by signing him to a one-year contract on Thursday afternoon, according to the KC Star. "It’s good for both sides to avoid that process," Teahen said. "The way I understand it, the team has to go in and convince an arbitrator that you’re not worth what you’re asking for, and you have to prove that you are." Teahan will earn about $2.3 million in 2008.
