Newsbreakers
December 11, 2008
Doug Waechter has signed with the Royals, according to the Kansas City Star. GM Dayton Moore said, "Doug Waechter has power to his game. He’s primarily been a starter for his whole career. Last year was his first year in the bullpen and right-handers hit .216 against him. Our scouts feel he has better days ahead of him." His deal is worth $640,000 and includes performance bonuses.

Our View:The 27-year-old righty held a decent 1.33 WHIP over 63.1 innings of relief with Florida in 2008. This looks to be a favorable signing for the Royals' bullpen.

Marlins reliever Doug Waechter was taken off the team's 40-man roster and optioned to Triple-A, according to the South Florida Sun-Sentinel.

Our View:Waechter was not bad this year for Florida, throwing 63.1 innings with an ERA of 3.69 and WHIP of 1.33. He can elect to become a free agent instead of report to the minors, and the guess here is that is exactly what will happen.

Doug Waechter has been activated from the DL following his bout with right rotator cuff inflammation, according to the AP. The Marlins placed lefthander Renyel Pinto on the 15-day DL as the corresponding move.

Our View:Waechter has fared well with the Marlins this season (1.21 WHIP over 56.1 innings) and is worth consideration in deeper NL-only leagues that use middle men.
August 11, 2008
Doug Waechter was placed on the DL on Monday because of right rotator cuff inflammation, according to the Associated Press. Logan Kensing has been recalled to take his roster spot.

Our View:Waechter has been a solid contributor this year with a 3.51 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 2.32 K/BB mark, so his loss will certainly be felt in Florida, that is unless youngster Kensing comes through.
August 11, 2008
Doug Waechter hasn't pitched since last Wednesday as he is dealing with a sore right shoulder, according to the Palm Beach Post.

Our View:He may not pitch again soon, but is hoping the rest will allow him to avoid the DL.
