August 14, 2008 Dan Giese is scheduled to be examined Thursday after leaving Wednesday's game due to shoulder soreness, according to the NY Daily News. He said, "My shoulder just stiffened up on me when I started facing Mauer. I was trying to overthrow and it got progressively worse and worse the more pitches I threw."
Our View:Manager Joe Girardi believed Giese would still be able to make his scheduled start on Tuesday, but that will likely depend on what happens during the pitcher's visit to Dr. Chris Ahmad today at New York-Presbyterian Hospital. Giese is hoping that he will heal with some rest and anti-inflammatory medication.

August 9, 2008 While the Yankees suffered the devastating 11-4 loss to the Angels today, the finger of blame cannot be pointed at RHP Dan Giese. Giese went six innings, allowing just one run on three hits with one walk and five strikeouts on the day.
Our View:Giese has been up and down, both literally (spending time in the bigs and minors this year) and figuratively (failing to impress more often than not, but posting performance like today in between), this season, but today shows he could have a future with the Yanks. If he continues to gain opportunity, the arm is there to do work.
