THe Yankees activated Dan Giese from the 15-day disabled list on Tuesday. The Yankees will continue to use Giese in relief, not in a starting role like earlier in the season.

Our View:Giese was on the disabled list with right shoulder inflation.
August 15, 2008
Dan Giese has been placed on the 15-day DL due to right rotator cuff tendinitis, according to the NY Post.

Our View:Darrell Rasner is a top candidate to cover Giese's next start scheduled for Tuesday against the Jays.
August 14, 2008
Dan Giese is scheduled to be examined Thursday after leaving Wednesday's game due to shoulder soreness, according to the NY Daily News. He said, "My shoulder just stiffened up on me when I started facing Mauer. I was trying to overthrow and it got progressively worse and worse the more pitches I threw."

Our View:Manager Joe Girardi believed Giese would still be able to make his scheduled start on Tuesday, but that will likely depend on what happens during the pitcher's visit to Dr. Chris Ahmad today at New York-Presbyterian Hospital. Giese is hoping that he will heal with some rest and anti-inflammatory medication.
August 13, 2008
Dan Giese left Wednesday's game against the Twins in the sixth inning due to a stiff right shoulder, according to the AP.

Our View:We will keep you posted when more details are released regarding the injury.
August 9, 2008
While the Yankees suffered the devastating 11-4 loss to the Angels today, the finger of blame cannot be pointed at RHP Dan Giese. Giese went six innings, allowing just one run on three hits with one walk and five strikeouts on the day.

Our View:Giese has been up and down, both literally (spending time in the bigs and minors this year) and figuratively (failing to impress more often than not, but posting performance like today in between), this season, but today shows he could have a future with the Yanks. If he continues to gain opportunity, the arm is there to do work.
August 6, 2008
Dan Giese will start on Saturday for the Yanks, who are looking to replace a pair of starters in Joba Chamberlain and Darrell Rasner, according to the AP.

Our View:Giese looked good in one start earlier this year but was shelled the next time out. He boasts a 2.51 ERA in 13 games (two starts) this year.
August 5, 2008
The Yankees have decided to use bullpen arm Dan Giese in place of struggling Darrell Rasner in the rotation. Giese sports a 2.51 ERA in 13 appearances this season and is scheduled to take the mound Friday night in LA against Jered Weaver and the Angels.

Our View:The move is temporary until Ian Kennedy, Carl Pavano and Phil Hughes find their health.
June 27, 2008
One start after giving up no earned runs to Cincinnati over six innings, Dan Giese was hit hard and took the loss in the Yankees 15-6 loss to the Mets. Giese went four innings, allowed six runs while walking four.

Our View:Not a great start for Giese, who had pitched well for the team before this outing. It speaks to the Yankees problems that they have to recall a 31-year-old journeyman from Triple-A to make starts for them. Giese probably doesn't warrant any fantasy consideration for the time being.
June 21, 2008
Dan Giese surrendered three runs (none earned) on four hits over 6.2 innings of work in Saturday's disappointing 6-0 loss to the Reds at Yankee Stadium, with no walks and five strikeouts.

Our View:He pitched well, but the Yankees provided no run support, and the 31-year old hurler was dealt his second loss of 2008.
June 17, 2008
As expected, Dan Giese has been named the starter for the Yankees on Saturday against the Reds, according to the Journal News. Giese holds a 1.23 ERA in 7 1/3 relief innings for the Yanks.

Our View:Giese appeared in 13 games (10 starts) at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre this year, boasting a 1.98 ERA. Despite those impressive totals, you should spend much (if any) of your FAAB on the 31-year-old.
June 6, 2008
The Yankees recalled Dan Giese from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Friday. Giese allowed a run in 3 2/3 innings earlier this week in his first appearance with the Yanks.

Our View:Giese was just optioned back to Triple-A Wednesday, but he can return without the customary 10-day waiting period because he is replacing the injured Chris Britton.
June 3, 2008
The Yankees purchased the contract of Dan Giese from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Tuesday. Giese held a 1.98 ERA in 13 games at Scranton this season. He replaces Scott Patterson on the roster.

Our View:Giese could get some action tonight following Joba Chamberlain, who will be limited to 60-70 pitches.
June 1, 2008
The Yankees plan to call up Dan Giese on Tuesday, the New York Daily News reports. Giese, 31, is 4-2 with a 2.02 ERA over 12 appearances (nine starts) at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Our View:Giese will help fill a long relief role while Joba Chamberlain eases into the starting rotation. Fantasy owners can pass on Giese, even though he has generally been excellent at Triple-A.
May 17, 2008
Dan Giese was dominant against the Louisville Bats in Triple-A, as he hurled a three-hit complete game shutout, according to MyPinstripes.com.

Our View:Giese has been bounced around a bit between several teams including San Diego and Philadelphia, but he has a chance to stick in the New York organization if he can continue to pitch like this.
