Newsbreakers
August 29, 2008
Catcher David Ross was called up to take the roster spot of pitcher Josh Beckett, who was put on the disabled list, according to RedSox.com.

Our View:Ross has no fantasy value as the third catcher on the team, behind Jason Varitek and Kevin Cash.
August 21, 2008
The Red Sox have signed David Ross to a minor league deal, according to the Boston Globe.

Our View:He will report to Triple-A Pawtucket, and eventually get called up to work as the No. 3 catcher behind Jason Varitek and Kevin Cash. The Sox would need to promote Ross by August 31 to make him eligible for their post-season roster. He will provide solid insurance at the position, but his fantasy value shall remain minimal.
August 20, 2008
The Phillies remain interested in catcher David Ross, but he would not be expected to replace Carlos Ruiz or Chris Coste on the 25-man roster, according to the Philadelphia Daily News. He would likely work at Triple-A Lehigh, and join the Phillies when rosters expand in September.

Our View:The Phillies cannot make a move for Ross until he clears waivers, which takes two business days. Since Ross was released Monday, he could be claimed or clear waivers today. Boston is also reportedly interested in Ross.
August 18, 2008
The Phillies are interested in the recently released David Ross, according to FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal.

Our View:Rosenthal speculates that the Phils could add Ross as a replacement for Carlos Ruiz right away, or they could send Ross to Triple-A and then bring him up when rosters expand.
August 10, 2008
David Ross has been designated for assignment, according to the AP. The Reds recalled catcher Ryan Hanigan from Triple-A Louisville as the adjoining move.

Our View:Ross failed to find his power stroke with only three homers over 134 at-bats, and failed to keep his job with a mere .231 batting average.
