Newsbreakers
September 18, 2008
Manager Jim Leyland indicated that Nate Robertson will start next Wednesday against the Royals, according to the Detroit Free Press.

Our View:That would mark his second start since being pulled from the rotation. He is getting another chance to start but should only be considered for deeper AL-only leagues, as he allowed three earned runs and four walks over a mere 2.2 innings of work in his last outing (September 17 at Texas).
September 9, 2008
Nate Robertson will return to the Tigers' rotation Tuesday in place of Kenny Rogers, and has regained his confidence since being demoted to the bullpen, according to MLive.com. He is thinking less and just pitching with a clear mind now. He has also been working on his mechanics.

Our View:He won't be on a specific pitch count Tuesday at home against the Athletics, and is worth consideration in deeper AL-only leagues.
September 6, 2008
Nate Robertson will start Tuesday in place of Kenny Rogers according to the AP. He had previously been designated for bullpen duty.

Our View:Robertson could use a good start. He has a 7.45 ERA since the All-Star break and has given up 18 earned runs in his last 14 innings.
August 22, 2008
Nate Robertson has been removed from the Tigers rotation and will join the team's bullpen, according to the Detroit News.

Our View:Robertson has been bad this year, with an ERA over 6.00, and a WHIP of 1.65. He had little fantasy value before this move and even less now.
August 20, 2008
Nate Robertson, who will take the hill against Texas Wednesday, is still working on his new mechanics, according to the Detroit Free Press. He said, "We worked on where my hands start in my stretch delivery. What you do in the very beginning can dictate a lot of what happens at the end. The purpose is to get my arm a little bit more free."

Our View:He is 1-1 over his last three starts since altering his delivery, and allowed four earned runs in two of those outings. He remains an unfavorable fantasy option against the Rangers.
August 10, 2008
Nate Robertson was in control in Sunday's 6-1 win over Comerica Park, as he only issued one earned run on five hits over 7.2 innings, with one walk and five strikeouts.

Our View:He nailed down his first win since June 21, snapping an eight-start skid.
July 19, 2008
Nate Robertson was staked to a 6-0 lead before he even toed the rubber Saturday, but the southpaw squandered it, allowing seven runs on eight hits over 2 1/3 innings.

Our View:Given Nate's performance this year, this outing isn't altogether surprising. His ERA sits at 5.69, and he's fallen a long ways since his solid 2006 season.
July 12, 2008
The Tigers fought but failed to produce a win, falling 6-5 to Minnesota. Nate Robertson suffered the consequences, taking his eighth loss of the season after pitching seven innings to allow five runs (all earned) on 10 hits with no walks and four strikeouts.

Our View:Robertson had posted three consecutive wins last month but has since fallen, going 0-2 over four starts since.
July 6, 2008
Nate Robertson threw nine innings but did not figure in the decision against the Seattle Mariners on Sunday. He allowed just one run while scattering four hits and walking two batters.

Our View:This was good news for Robertson who had given up a total of 22 hits in his previous two appearances. Assuming the Tigers' bats heat up in the second half, this performance shows that Robertson could be a quality source of wins.
July 1, 2008
Nate Robertson was rocked for six earned runs on 11 hits over a mere four innings of work in Tuesday's 6-4 loss to the Twins, with two walks and three strikeouts.

Our View:Robertson drops to 6-7, with a 5.56 ERA. That ended a nice string of luck for him, as he was 3-0 over his previous four starts. He remains an erratic fantasy option.
June 15, 2008
Nate Robertson fired six scoreless innings, with only four hits allowed, in Sunday's 5-4 victory against the Dodgers, with no walks and three strikeouts.

Our View:Robertson improves to 5-6 for the season, and trimmed his ERA to 5.46. That was only the second time this season that he didn't issue a walk in a start, and the first time he exited with no runs allowed, but he remains a risky fantasy option.
June 10, 2008
Nate Robertson improved to 4-6 with a win over the White Sox on Tuesday night. He held the Sox to three runs over 6.1 innings despite giving up eight hits, including a homer. Robertson has won three of his past four starts.

Our View:The southpaw has still allowed fewer than three runs in only one of his 13 outings, and we have no reason to trust him in fantasy leagues.
May 18, 2008
Nate Robertson allowed 11 baserunners over 5.2 innings in his fifth loss of the season on Sunday. Robertson struck out five but balanced out that positive with four walks.

Our View:Is there a more average pitcher in baseball who gets a regular turn in the rotation? The only team that Nate should be on are those in AL Only leagues and even in that situation you need to be smart and spot start him in good matchups.
May 18, 2008
Detroit LHP Nate Robertson will hit the mound for the Tigers today and hopes to get his season back on track as the Tigers visit the best team in the majors, the 27-16 Arizona Diamondbacks.

Our View:Robertson is 16 games below .500 for his career coming in (43-59) and has just one victory over his five decisions this season. Four of his last five outings (and six of his last eight) have resulted in losses. In his last outing against Kansas City, Robertson gave up just two runs over seven innings despite surrendering 10 hits.
May 1, 2008
Nate Robertson struggled to his first victory of the season on Thursday night as he allowed nine base runners and four runs in 5.2 innings of work.

Our View:Robertson has made six starts on the year, and not once has he allowed less than four earned runs. That's the definition of below average, which is how your fantasy staff will likely turn out if you run Robertson out there every week.
April 25, 2008
Nate Robertson will be aiming for his first win of the season when the Tigers host the Angels tonight, according to MLB.com. The Tigers' lefty is 0-2 with a 7.48 ERA and a dismal 1.62 WHIP. He is 0-4 with an 8.91 ERA over seven career starts against the Angels.

Our View:Robertson went 9-13 in 2007, and is off to another poor start in 2008. He will be opposed by Angels righty Ervin Santana, who is currently 3-0 with a 2.67 ERA. Robertson should not be in your lineups tonight.
April 20, 2008
Tigers starter Nate Robertson remained winless with a 5-3 loss to A.J. Burnett and the Blue Jays on Sunday. The left-hander's ERA climbed to 7.48 through four starts.

Our View:Between Robertson and Sabathia, the two pitchers have seven of the Tigers 13 losses.
April 20, 2008
Nate Robertson was rocked for five runs on eight hits over five innings of work in Sunday's 5-3 loss to Toronto. He had five strikeouts with only one walk, and most of the damage came on a three-run homer by David Eckstein in the fourth inning. He falls to 0-2 for the season, with a 7.48 ERA.

Our View:He only went 9-13 in 2007, and his fantasy stock should continue to fall.
April 19, 2008
Nate Robertson is still in line to start on Sunday for the Tigers against the Blue Jays despite persistent issues with his left lat, this according to MLB.com.

Our View:When throwing fastballs he seems to be fine, but he is still experiencing some issues when throwing his slider. Robertson says it won't be a factor on Sunday, though we are less certain and would recommend going in another direction if you have the option.
April 16, 2008
Nate Robertson will make his next scheduled start on Sunday, this after leaving his start last night due to tightness in his left lat, according to MLB.com.

Our View:Robertson has struggled mightily with a 7.02 ERA and 21 hits allowed in 16.2 innings, but with Dontrelle Willis already on the DL, the Tigers really need Robertsons innings in the starting rotation.
April 15, 2008
Nate Robertson pitched well for the first time this season in a 6-5 win over the Minnesota Twins on Tuesday. The Detroit left-hander didn't receive the decision but kept the Tigers in the game. The southpaw allowed four runs on six hits, walked one and struck out five over 6.1 innings of work.

Our View:The Tigers bats are coming alive, and with an average starting five and bullpen, it's the Detroit hitters that will have carry the Tigers to continued success.
April 10, 2008
Nate Robertson was hit around for the second straight start this season. The Tigers left-hander allowed four runs on eight hits, walked two and struck out six over 5.1 innings of work in the Thursday loss to Boston. The southpaw is 0-1 with an ERA of 7.48 in two starts.
April 4, 2008
Nate Robertson did not start the year off well. The southpaw served up seven hits and five runs to the White Sox over five innings on Friday. He walked two, struck out five, and allowed six extra-base hits. Robertson was fortunate to escape with only five runs allowed, as he got out of a jam in the fifth.
March 24, 2008
Nate Robertson threw 5.1 innings on Monday allowing one run on four hits in a win over the Nationals. The left-hander struck out three and walked two. It is yet another strong start for the Tigers southpaw. The Tigers No. 4 pitcher has always shown promise, and his 2007 stat-lines were atrocious. Given his upside Robertson could have value in mixed formats with any April success.
March 21, 2008
Nate Robertson is slated to start the fourth game of the season for the Tigers, manager Jim Leyland told MLive.com. Dontrelle Willis will get the ball in the fifth game. The left-hander has had a phenomenal spring, allowing just one run on six hits and no walks with nine Ks over nine frames. He had a disappointing 2007 season but could bounce back this year.
March 9, 2008
Nate Robertson is having a dominant spring. On Sunday the left-hander allowed only a Chris Gomez's single leading off the third and lowered his ERA to 1.00 during his spring work. Robertson struck out four and walked none. Robertson is slated to be the Tigers No. 5 starter to begin the season but he's pitched more like an ace.
February 28, 2008
Nate Robertson was scratched from his Thursday start versus the Blue Jays, but not due to an injury, this according to Mlive.com. Robertson's wife Kristin gave birth to the couple's first child at 1:23 this morning, and the coaching staff offered Robertson the day off. Robertson will make his spring debut tomorrow in Dunedin, pitching after starter, Justin Verlander.
January 16, 2008
FoxSports.com's Ken Rosenthal has reported the Tigers have signed Nate Robertson to a three-year, $21.25 contract. He will earn $4.25 million next season, $7 million in 2009 and $10 million in '10. The salary in his final year will increase to $11 million if he pitches 400 innings combined in '08 and '09 or 200 innings in '09. Robertson posted a 4.76 ERA in 30 starts last year.
