October 15, 2008
Shane Victorino used to be a member of the Dodgers organization though he was eventually lost through the Rule 5 draft to the Phillies, according to Fox Sports.

Our View:Flashed forward a couple of seasons and the Flyin' Hawaiian is torching his former organization with six RBI in his last three playoff games. The Dodgers have a ton of talent in the outfield, but they clearly missed the boat on evaluating Victorino.
October 13, 2008
Shane Victorino went 1-for-3 and hit an eighth inning, two-run home run to tie the game at five for the Phillies, who went on to beat the Dodgers, 7-5.

Our View:Victorino is just 3-for-16 in the series, but no hit was bigger than his two-run shot that helped the Phillies take a commanding 3-1 series lead.
October 12, 2008
Shane Victorino stated he will not miss any games following the death of his 82-year-old grandmother Friday, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer. Victorino wants to attend his grandmother's funeral in Hawaii, but he also said he will not miss any games. He commented, "Family definitely is important in life, but I'm at the point where I'm kind of tired of talking about it. It's time to move on. She's in a better place. I want to turn the page and move forward. But I appreciate everybody's condolences. I got a lot of text messages, a lot of phone calls. I appreciate everybody's love and support. And not just for me, but for Charlie. But like my dad said, my grandmother would want me to be here."

Our View:Victorino went 2-for-5 with four RBI in Game 2 against Los Angeles, and will be aiming to lead the Phillies to a commanding 3-0 lead in the series tonight at Dodger Stadium.
October 10, 2008
Shane Victorino led the Phillies in Friday's 8-5 win in Game 2 of the NLCS against the Dodgers, as he went 2-for-5 with four RBI. He hit a single and a triple. The Phillies now lead the series 2-0.

Our View:Victorino is an early top candidate for postseason MVP, with five RBI over the Phillies' two wins.
September 27, 2008
Shane Victorino didn't get to celebrate with his teammates like he wanted to after the game because he was receiving some treatment on his shin. Victorino and shortstop Jimmy Rollins converged on a shallow fly ball with one out in the eighth, with Rollins ranging to make the play. As he made the diving stab, Rollins appeared to kick Victorino in the right shin.

Our View:There is no fear that the injury is serious enough that it will cause him to miss any time in the playoffs. You can probably bet that Victorino will not be in the lineup on Sunday though.
September 14, 2008
Shane Victorino went 4-for-4 on Sunday night after going 1-for-3 with a home run in the first game of a double header between the Phillies and the Brewers.

Our View:Victrino has a hit in nine of his last 11 games, and he continues to be a bottom of the order force for the Phillies with 12 home runs, 55 RBI, 96 runs scored and 32 steals.
September 4, 2008
Shane Victorino has been struggling for the Phillies recently, and has just five hits in his last 35 at-bats, so he did not play on Wednesday, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer.

September 1, 2008
Shane Victorino was caught stealing for the 10th time this season on Monday though he was also successful for the 30th time for the Phillies.

Our View:Victorino started slowly this year but he has virtually matched last years production (.281-12-46-78-37) this year (.283-11-49-87-30) marking him as a very valuable depth play in mixed leagues and a stud in NL-only formats.
August 19, 2008
Outfielder Shane Victorino was the main source of power for the Phillies' offense in the 5-4 win over Washington this evening, going 2-for-3 with a double and a triple to total two runs scored.

Our View:All five RBIs were spread through different hitters for the Phillies this evening. For Victorino, there have been struggles. After hitting .333 last month with seven homers and 20 RBIs, he has fallen to .236 in August with two home runs and eight RBIs.
August 13, 2008
Shane Victorino was out of tonight's lineup against the Dodgers because of a stiff back, according to Phillies.com.

Our View:Victorino is valuable both to his team and fantasy owners, and the good news is the injury isn't considered serious. He could be out for a few days, though.
August 8, 2008
Shane Victorino had two hits on Friday night and he also stole his 27th base of the season for the Phillies.

Our View:Over his last 11 appearances, Victorino is batting .341 with four home runs, 12 RBI, 10 runs scored and three SB to erase any memory of a slow start to the campaign.
July 31, 2008
Shane Victorino went 2-for-4, scored a run and stole a base in the Phillies 9-4 thrashing of the Nationals.

Our View:Victorino had a great July, hitting .333 on the month and stealing six bases. By all means, keep him in your lineup.
July 27, 2008

Our View:Victorino may be poised to have a strong second half as the games take on more meaning for the Phillies. He also is responsible for knocking Brian McCann out of the game in a home plate collision.
July 22, 2008
Shane Victorino was 2-for-4 with a solo home run and two runs scored out of the seven hole on Tuesday.

Our View:Earlier in the day, Victorino pled his case to stay with the Phillies despite a host of trade rumors. He upped his value in this game.
July 22, 2008
Shane Victorino has been dropped to seventh in the order against the Mets.

Our View:Manager Charlie Manuel will bat Pat Burrell third in the order against the Mets.
July 12, 2008
The Phillies found hard times at the park this evening, falling 10-4 to the Arizona Diamondbacks, though leadoff outfielder Shane Victorino enjoyed a strong individual effort. Victorino went 3-for-3 at the dish with two home runs (his 4th and 5th of the season) to total three RBIs and two runs scored.

Our View:Victorino is enjoying a nice bounceback effort this month, hitting .320 through July with three homers and 11 RBIs, a strong performance after hitting just .235 with no homers and four RBIs last month.
July 11, 2008
Shane Victorino missed the cycle by a mere home run. He finished Firday's game 3-for-6, but his biggest hit was a two-run triple off of Tony Pena in the ninth.

Our View:The game marked the Flyin Hawaiian's fifth multi-hit effort of the month.
July 10, 2008
Shane Victorino went 2-for-4 in the Phillies 4-1 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals. They were his first hits in the series.

Our View:Victorino had been struggling in July, with a .216 average for the month. He should remain in fantasy lineups if only for his stolen base potential.
July 4, 2008
Shane Victorino went 1-for-4 and delivered a game-winning RBI single with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning in Friday's 3-2 victory over the Mets.

Our View:The Phillies returned home from a nine-game road trip, in which they went 5-4.
July 1, 2008
The Phillies enjoyed a plethora of offense this evening, putting 14 total hits on the board to pull the 8-3 win over the Atlanta Braves. The bulk of that offense came from outfielder Shane Victorino , going 2-for-5 at the plate with his third homer of the season, posting four RBIs and one runs scored on the night.

Our View:Victorino hit just .235 through June without a single home run and just four RBIs. This is the start of a new month and could be the beginning of a reversal of fortunes for the young outfielder.
June 26, 2008
Shane Victorino was the only Philadelphia player to get a hit off of Oakland's Rich Harden, singling twice. He also stole a base in the Phillies 5-0 loss to the A's.

Our View:Victorino stole his twentieth base of the season in today's game. He has also scored 49 runs, and is hitting over .300 against right-handed pitching. Victorino is only hitting about .230 against lefties, however, so if your fantasy team is deep enough to play him in a platoon situation, that would be optimal.
June 8, 2008
Philadelphia outfielder Shane Victorino had the offense flowing today as the Phillies put the 6-3 hurt on the Braves, hitting 3-for-5 (all singles) to post one RBI and three runs scored on the day.

Our View:Slugger Ryan Howard drove Victorino in each time he got on, giving the outfielder eight run scored through June with 25 runs scored through his last 18 games.
June 2, 2008
Shane Victorino only went 1-for-4 on Monday, but the effort was good enough to push his hitting streak to 14 games. He is 24-for-60 (.400) with 18 runs, seven RBI, and six steals during that span.

Our View:Victorino battled injuries and bad play in April, but he made a major turn in May and is quietly producing solid numbers for fantasy squads.
May 28, 2008

Our View:Victorino now has 12 stolen bases on the season, 11 of them coming in May.
May 14, 2008
Shane Victorino started in right field on Tuesday night, a spot he hasn't played since last season. He had been holding down the center field job, but Jayson Werth started there. "Tonight, that's what I wanted to do," manager Charlie Manuel informs the Philadelphia Daily News. "I think I told you guys before that Werth will play some in center field. I said that in the winter, I said that in the spring, I said it right before Victorino came back."

Our View:It certainly doesn't sound like Victorino is being pulled from his duties in center. Fantasy owners should just be happy he's in the lineup.
May 13, 2008
Shane Victorino had two hits, a run scored and his sixth stolen base of the season on Tuessday.

Our View:Victorino improved his average to .240 tonight, but he has to star running more to reward those owners who selected him this season given that he has attempted only seven steals in 26 games.
May 8, 2008
Shane Victorino had only one hit on Wednesday night be he still scored a run, knocked in a run and stole his third base of the season for the Phillies.

Our View:Since returning to the starting lineup Victorino is 8-for-29 (.276) with six runs scored as he has begun to salvage what had been a terrible slow start to his season.
May 2, 2008
Shane Victorino is starting in center field and hitting from the leadoff spot for the second straight night.

Our View:Victorino returned from the disabled list (strained right calf) on Wednesday, but didn't return to the regular duty until Thursday.
May 2, 2008
Shane Victorino played center field and batted in the leadoff position on Thursday night, his first start since he went on the disabled list with a strained right calf, notes the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Our View:Victorino has played in 15 games this season and has only scored five runs. But despite the recent roster shuffle and key injuries, the Phillies find themselves in first place. At this point Philadelphia has to be considered the team to beat in the NL East.
April 29, 2008
The Phillies activated Shane Victorino from the DL Tuesday. The outfielder has been out since April 12 with a strained calf. T.J. Bohn was optioned to Triple-A Lehigh Valley to make room on the roster.

Our View:We'll see how much the calf ailment holds back Victorino in the running game, since he obviously derives most of his fantasy value from his steals.
April 28, 2008
Shane Victorino is eligible to return from the DL on Tuesday, in time to play against the Padres, according to the Philadelphia Daily News. Manager Charlie Manuel commented that he will proceed with caution when using Victorino. Manuel wants to make sure Victorino's calf, which bothered him last season, doesn't nag him.

Our View:He would return to center field, or would move to right. Jayson Werth has been hot with five homers and 12 RBI over 72 at-bats, and could remain in center upon Victorino's return. Victorino would play either way, and Geoff Jenkins would be the odd man out.
April 26, 2008
Shane Victorino continued his rehab assignment in double-A Reading on Friday, according to the Philadelphia Enquirer. Victorino went 2-for-5 with two walks and an RBI in single-A Clearwater. The Phillies are expected to activate him from the DL before Tuesday's game against San Diego. He is recovering from a strained right calf.

Our View:Jayson Werth would slide back into his bench role upon his return. Victorino was hitting .234 over 47 at-bats before getting hurt, with four runs scored.
April 22, 2008
Shane Victorino, who is recovering from a calf strain, will make his first rehab appearance at Class-A Clearwater today, according to the Philadelphia Daily News.

Our View:He is expected to be ready to come off the DL when he is first eligible on April 28, barring a setback. Jayson Werth would slide back into his bench role upon his return.
April 14, 2008
Shane Victorino is ready for rehab on his strained calf, according to the Philadelphia Daily News. He is confident that his injury won't keep him out any longer than his 15 days on the DL. The team is going to take a wait-and-see approach with him, and Trainer Scott Sheridan noted that if everything goes well, he could make a minor league rehab start in about 10 days. But a lot depends on how he responds to treatment. Sheridan stated, "Certainly, you don't know. We'd like to hope that in two weeks he is doing well. If he continues to improve like he did today, that's what you are going to find." Victorino added that his MRI exam revealed a small tear in his meniscus, but Sheridan noted that it was likely a pre-existing condition and not the cause for his current pain. He was placed on the DL Saturday, and won't be eligible until April 28.

Our View:Jason Werth notably started in his place on Sunday against the Cubs.
April 13, 2008
Following a story from yesterday, Philadelphia OF Shane Victorino has been placed on the 15-day disabled list after leaving Saturday’s game in the 7th inning with a right calf strain, according to the BeerLeaguer.com. This same injury plagued the young outfielder last season, well respected as one of the top up-and-coming fielding gems in the major leagues.

Our View:Manager Charlie Manuel has admitted worry about Victorino’s struggles to maintain health after last season and had stated he would give the kid just 125 starts this season, but the injury to Jimmy Rollins may have forced his hand as Victorino has made every start this season. Now he’s hampered again and the team has not released a timeline for his return.
April 12, 2008
Shane Victorino was forced from the Phillies game on Saturday night in the 7th inning because of a right calf strain, this according to the AP.

Our View:Victorino was 2-for-4 before being removed, and there is no clear cut explanation as to when he suffered the injury.
April 11, 2008
Shane Victorino's job in center field is not in jeopardy, according to the Philadelphia Daily News. He is only hitting .175 over 40 at-bats, with eight strikeouts, but Manager Manuel stated that he does plan on dropping him out of the lineup, as he plays great defense. Hopefully his bat will come around soon.
April 2, 2008
Shane Victorino went 0-for-4 on Wednesday and is now 0-for-7 on the young season. A lot is expected from Victorino this year, but as long as he can find some way to get on base, hitting from the second hole, he would seem like a lock to score 100 runs with Chase Utley and Ryan Howard batting directly behind him.
March 8, 2008
Shane Victorino continued to spread the positive emotions for '08 in the Phillies' 5-9 loss to Cleveland today, batting 1-for-3 with a stolen base. The young up-and-comer provided fantasy owners with a strong 37 stolen bases in '07 and thus far it looks like he will continue to progress moving forward.
February 29, 2008
Shane Victorino tripled, singled and scored a run Friday in Grapefruit League play. His triple could have easily been an inside-the-park homer, but Victorino wisely didn't push it this early in the spring. The outfielder gave owners 37 steals and 12 homers last year, and if he can stay healthy for the entire 2008 season, he could be a poor man's Carl Crawford at a fraction of the price.
