Newsbreakers
September 30, 2008
The Giants are hoping Fred Lewis can begin running by mid-December or January, according to the SF Chronicle. He is recovering from bunion surgery.

Our View:Lewis will wear a protective boot for another six or seven weeks before he gets into sneakers. He previously indicated he is confident he will be fully healthy by spring training.
September 25, 2008
Fred Lewis, coming off recent bunion surgery on his right foot, is confident he will be fully healthy come spring training, according to the AP.

Our View:Lewis was a solid leadoff hitter through 133 games this season. He hit .282, scored 81 runs, walked 51 times, and stole 21 bases. He would be greatly served if he could significantly cut down on his 124 strikeouts and play in front of some more threatening hitters.
September 10, 2008
Giants outfielder Fred Lewis will have surgery on Friday to repair a bunion, according to the San Jose Mercury News.

Our View:The surgery will end Lewis' season, and though he is expected to be fine for spring training next year, the paper notes that sometimes recovery can take up to six months.
August 3, 2008
Fred Lewis went 2-for-4 and scored a run in Saturday's 2-0 win over the Padres at PETCO Park. He also chipped in a stolen base, his 20th of the season.

Our View:Lewis has registered two hits and a run in back-to-back games. He is now hitting .281 and should remain a solid source of steals and runs (66) for fantasy owners.
July 27, 2008
Fred Lewis became the first left-handed hitter in history to record four hits off of LHP Randy Johnson. He was 4-for-4 with two stolen bases in the game.

Our View:Lewis is hitting leadoff for the Giants but not everyday. He is a good source of steals (19) and runs (63). If the Giants commit to him he could become a very solid fantasy contributor
