Manager Bob Melvin informed Hammock of the decision early, hoping to ease his concerns and loosen his approach at the plate. With Miguel Montero starting the season on the DL and Chris Snyder lacking the ability to work each and every day with each and every pitcher, the decision was simple. Hammock worked well behind the plate with Randy Johnson last season and has shown potential, but the woes of this spring (hitting just .194) left questions. Now we know he'll be in the bigs.
