The Diamondbacks designated reliever Brandon Medders for assignment on Thursday. He posted a 4.58 ERA over 18 appearances this season and a 3.52 ERA over three-plus years with the club. "It's not like he had horrible numbers and needed to go, but unfortunately, it was his spot," manager Bob Melvin tells the Arizona Republic.

Our View:Medders isn't a superstar by any means, but we imagine a lot of teams will take a look and possibly pluck him away from the D'Backs.

Brandon Medders has secured a spot in the Diamondbacks bullpen, according to the Arizona Republic. Medders had a solid spring, sans one poor outing, and carried a 4.30 ERA and 1.57 WHIP with 23 strikeouts in 29.1 IP last season.

The Diamondbacks recalled Brandon Medders from Triple-A Tucson on Sunday. With rosters expanding over the weekend, they could afford to add Medders to the mix. He posted a 4.48 ERA and 1.66 WHIP in 23 appearances with the Diamondbacks earlier this season and had a 4.69 ERA with five saves at the Triple-A level.

The Diamondbacks optioned the struggling Brandon Medders to Triple-A Tucson on Friday, according to the AP. Manager Bob Melvin said Medders remains part of the Diamondbacks' plans but needs to rebuild his confidence. Medders was 1-2 with a 4.84 ERA in 23 appearances.
May 14, 2007
Brandon Medders has allowed eight homers in just 16 2/3 innings, including two during Saturday's game. As a result, manager Bob Melvin plans to scale back Medders' role for the time being, likely looking to Juan Cruz in the seventh inning of a close game, according to the Arizona Republic. "Right now, I think he maybe needs a break from those games so he can iron some things out and get his confidence back," Melvin said. "He'll make a couple of good pitches, then every mistake that he makes they'll hit out of the ballpark. He's going to have to work through it."
