Newsbreakers
September 9, 2008
Since taking over as the Braves closer Mike Gonzalez has not blown a save, well until tonight. Gonzalez gave up a ninth inning homer to Brad Hawpe.

Our View:Gonzalez has been pretty good in the closer role this year and you might consider him in NL only leagues or deep leagues.
September 6, 2008
Mike Gonzalez managed just one out while yielding three runs in the tenth inning against the Nationals on Saturday night. It was his second loss of the season.

Our View:Gonzalez has been anything but dominant but he remains the closer for the Braves which makes him a fantasy consideration in deep leagues.
September 4, 2008
Mike Gonzalez picked up his ninth save on Thursday night with a one inning, three strikeout performance against the Nationals. This was his 39th straight save conversion, the longest current streak in the majors.

Our View:Gonzalez has rebounded from his arm injury quite well with 27 K in 24 innings to go along with a 1.13 WHIP. A healthy season in 2009 will make a huge difference for a Braves club that struggled for half the year to find a closer.
September 1, 2008
Braves reliever Mike Gonzalez showed an uncharacteristic lack of control, walking three Marlins in the bottom of the ninth inning before giving up a sacrifice fly to John Baker, as the Braves lost to Florida, 4-3.

Our View:For the most part, Gonzalez has shown very good control, averaging less than three walks per nine innings this season. He remains the Braves closer, and fantasy owners should not lose confidence in him due to this hiccup.
July 25, 2008
Braves' closer Mike Gonzalez has a 2.70 ERA with 17 strike outs and no walks in 13.1 innings this year. The return of Rafael Soriano isn't expected to affect the pecking order in the Atlanta bullpen.

Our View:The only reason to own Soriano in traditional formats is just in case the Braves become sellers this week and find a taker for Gonzalez. Soriano would then take hold of the ninth inning role.
