Jeremy Reed fielded balls at first base Saturday afternoon before batting practice, something manager John McLaren told the Seattle Times was in anticipation of playing in National League parks when the Mariners won't have a designated hitter.

Our View:The team will play at Atlanta starting June 20 and the staff wants to keep their options open in preperation for batting the pitcher and going without a designated hitter. It doesn't mean that Reed will see action at first base.
June 10, 2008
Jeremy Reed socked a solo homer on Tuesday night, but his teammates didn't help him out. The Mariners lost 3-1 to the Blue Jays.

Our View:Reed is one heckuva Triple-A hitter, but he's never been able to get it done in the majors. This solo shot was just his second extra-base hit over 46 at-bats this year.

When the Mariners begin a three-game series on Tuesday against the Tigers, Jeremy Reed will be with the team. Reed, who has been honing his skills at Triple-A Tacoma, was batting .349 before being called up today, this according to the team website.

Our View:Reed was a mainstay in center field in 2005, playing in 141 games and batting .254 with 45 RBIs. Reed was the regular center fielder in 2006 as well -- until July 2 when he broke his right thumb. Reed underwent surgery four days later and missed the remainder of the season. By the time he came back, the Mariners had moved Ichiro Suzuki from right field to center field and signed right-handed-hitting Jose Guillen to play right field.

Jeremy Reed went 3-for-5 with his fifth home run and sixth steal of the season for Triple-A Tacoma on Tuesday.

Our View:Reed is one of the biggest busts of the last five years among prospects, but we can’t give up on him yet. He is still only 26-years-old and hitting .375 for Tacoma. He is sure to get his chance as a backup with Seattle soon and has AL-only upside.
March 29, 2007
The Mariners optioned Jeremy Reed to Triple-A Tacoma on Wednesday. Reed never got back in the mix after breaking his thumb while playing defense in July.
