Our View:The 24-year-old right-hander needs to continue working on his control. He has a promising arm, and we'll probably see him again later this season.
July 18, 2008 Pitcher Juan Morillo has been recalled from Triple-A to join the Rockies bullpen, according to the Rocky Mountain News. He has a live arm and his fastball has been known to hit 100 mph, according to the paper.
Our View:Morillo had a previous stint in the majors last season, and did not fare well, registering a 9.82 ERA. In Triple-A this year, he has held opponents to a .204 batting average, while striking out 41 hitters in 39.1 innings. The problem was that he also walked 34 batters during that time. Keep him off fantasy rosters for now, but monitor his status to see if he improves his control, because all of those strikeouts could become useful.
December 5, 2006 The Denver Post reports that the Rockies plan to test Juan Morillo in the bullpen this spring. Morillo was 12-8 with a 4.62 ERA in 27 starts for Double-A Tulsa last season, but he had 132 strikeouts in 140+ innings.
