The AP reports that the Nationals have pulled Jason Bergmann from the rotation. Bergmann (2-11) is 1-10 in his last 20 games after giving up seven runs in 2.1 innings of Friday night’s 10-5 loss to the Braves.

Our View:Shairon Martis will replace him in the rotation. Manager Manny Acta said the move to leave Martis in the rotation will “give us an opportunity to see the young man and get a better picture for what we’re getting next year.”

The pitching in Washington has been nothing short of suspect this season, but RHP Jason Bergmann provided a bit of optimism this evening though his team fell 5-4 to Philadelphia. Bergmann pitched 6 1/3 innings, allowing four runs (three earned) on six hits with no walks and four strikeouts.

Our View:While his control has been all over the map, Bergmann is starting to show a bit of promise. His team failed to get the offense going to secure the win, but two strong outings in his last three starts could be the start of better returns.
August 13, 2008
Jason Bergmann was crushed by the New York Mets, pitching just three innings and allowing 10 runs (six earned) on eight hits and six walks in the Mets 12-0 demolition of Washington.

Our View:Bergmann hasn't pitched too bad this season, but this was a dreadful performance. His two wins make him ineligible for consideration in fantasy leagues of any format.

Washington Nationals hurler Jason Bergmann has pitched well enough that the team has plans to use him in the rotation in the future, according to the Washington Post. "He continues to do it for us, so he can pencil himself in here for the future," Nats manager Manny Acta said.

Our View:Don't let his miserable 2-8 record fool you. Bergmann has been better than that, and sports a 4.13 ERA with a 1.30 WHIP. He shows good control, having walked just 27 batters in 106.2 innings. Unfortunately, his record does mean that he isn't up to snuff in fantasy leagues.
August 7, 2008
Jason Bergmann was not as bad as his 1-8 record had made him look, and he proved that tonight with a solid seven inning performance. He surrendered just one run on seven hits while striking out seven against the Rockies.

Our View:Bergmann has been a victim of the Nats horrendous offense, as he now sports a 4.13 ERA on the year. He doesn't belong in fantasy leagues because Washington won't score for him, but it's yet another reminder of how overrated wins and losses are as a statistic for pitchers.
