Newsbreakers
August 23, 2008
Brian Stokes is slated to be used as a spot-starter August 31 against Florida, according to the NY Daily News.

Our View:He will make the start to give Mike Pelfrey nearly a full turn of rest, who has already exceeded his career-high in innings with 154 this season.
August 8, 2008
Brian Stokes is slated to make a spot start in the Mets' rotation Saturday against the Marlins, according to the NY Daily News.

Our View:He is filling in for the injured John Maine, who is expected to return to the rotation Wednesday. At that point, Stokes will work out of the bullpen. Stokes was 10-8 with a 4.41 ERA at Triple-A New Orleans this season, and is not worth acquiring for Saturday's lone start.
April 3, 2008
Brian Stokes has cleared waivers, according to MetsFever.com. He is expected to stay with the organization in New Orleans. Stokes throws very hard and could prove to make a solid long reliever in time.
November 28, 2007
The Mets acquired Brian Stokes from the Rays Wednesday for cash considerations. Stokes had a less than impressive 2007 campaign, holding a 7.07 ERA and 1.84 WHIP for Tampa.
April 22, 2007
With Al Reyes unavailable having pitched the previous two days, the Devil Rays put Brian Stokes into the game Sunday in a save situation and watched Stokes give up four runs in 1/3 of an inning to blow the game, according to the AP. Stokes now has an 8.68 ERA on the year.
