Dennis Sarfate will undergo surgery on his clavicle Tuesday and expects to make a full recovery by spring training, according to the AP. Sarfate sustained a right distal clavicle fracture while moving into his home in April. He dropped his keys, and when he bent down to pick them up, the door he swung open hit him in the right shoulder. He said, "I just want to get back to feeling good. I tried to go with it the whole year and it got worse at times and got better at times. I think just being consistent next year will be nice, not to have that pain when I throw but even when I pick up my daughter and stuff like that."

Our View:The surgery will be performed in California by orthopedist Dr. Lewis Yocum, who is confident the ailment won't bother Sarfate again. He noted that he will be able to start throwing again in early January.

Updating an earlier report, Dennis Sarfate has been placed on the 15-day DL due to his right distal clavicle fracture, according to the AP.

Our View:If he opts for surgery, it is not believed to affect his status for 2009.

Dennis Sarfate has a right distal clavicle fracture in his shoulder and will likely be shut down for the rest of the season, according to the Baltimore Sun.

Our View:He is deciding whether to have surgery, but the team does not believe it will affect his status for 2009. Sarfate held some fantasy value with 86 strikeouts over 79.2 innings, but maintained a poor 4.74 ERA and 1.56 WHIP.

The Orioles have removed Dennis Sarfate from the rotation, according to the AP. He went 0-2 with a 10.34 ERA in four starts after making 49 relief appearances.

Our View:Moving Sarfate to the rotation never really made sense anyway. He has the potential to be a nice setup man, but he doesn't feature the repertoire to be a starter.
August 14, 2008
Dennis Sarfate threw a bullpen session before Wednesday night's game and is preparing to start Saturday against the Tigers, according to the Baltimore Sun. But manager Dave Trembley hasn't fully committed to him getting the start. Trembley said, "I haven't said that he's not going to pitch. Until something happens, he's going to pitch. I don't know that anything's going to happen."

Our View:Sarfate has struggled as a reliever this season, and does not merit fantasy consideration if he ultimately gets the start for Saturday. He currently holds a 5.16 ERA and 1.61 WHIP over 61 innings.
