Newsbreakers
September 23, 2008
Jeff Karstens pitched well enough to get a win Tuesday but left with a no-decision. He allowed three runs (one earned) on five hits and a walk while striking out six over six innings.

Our View:Karstens has a solid 4.03 ERA in nine starts since arriving in the Steel City, but his high WHIP and lack of strikeouts suggest that he's been a bit lucky.

Pirates hurler Jeff Karstens is scheduled to make the start on Tuesday, as he his abscessed tooth has healed, according to the Allegheny Times.

Our View:Karstens was scratched from his start on Tuesday because of the painful tooth. He had been a solid fantasy pickup until recently, when he really started struggling, knocking down his value greatly.
September 13, 2008
Updating an earlier report, Jeff Karstens has been scratched from Saturday's scheduled start against St. Louis due to abscessed tooth, according to the AP. He is being replaced by Ian Snell.

Our View:Karstens' next start will be Tuesday against the Dodgers.
September 13, 2008
Jeff Karstens could have tonight's start pushed back to Sunday due to an abscessed tooth, according to the Beaver County Times.

Our View:Ian Snell would start tonight if Karstens is unavailable.
September 7, 2008
Jeff Karstens went just three innings, as he allowed eight runs (five earned) on six hits, as he suffered the loss in the Giants 11-6 win over Pittsburgh.

Our View:After starting out great for the Pirates, Karstens has now lost his last five games. His fantasy value is waning.
