Jonathan Meloan threw six scoreless innings on Wednesday, allowing only one hit, four walks and fanning four to bring his ERA down to 1.69 at Triple-A Las Vegas.

Our View:Meloan was overpowering as a reliever between Double-A and Triple-A last season (2.03 ERA and 91 strikeouts in 66.2 innings), but the Dodgers are giving him a try as a starter this season. He has had some control issues, but the upside is enormous if he continues to work out.

Jonathan Meloan could get a shot at a place in the Dodgers' starting rotation in spring training, according to the LA Times. Meloan was a starter in his college days at Arizona, but he's started just nine games in his professional career. The reason why he was moved to the bullpen in the first place was because of his max-out delivery and durability issues, so it would seem like an odd choice to make him a starter again after he's excelled in a relief role in the minors.

The Dodgers purchased the contract of Jonathan Meloan from the minors on Saturday. He won't have much value this year working in middle relief, but he's a guy to keep an eye on for the future. In 49 games between Double- and Triple-A, he held a 2.03 ERA, striking out 91 in 66 2/3 innings of work.

The Dodgers have assigned promising young reliever Jonathan Meloan to minor league camp, according to the LA Times. The most likely scenario has Meloan beginning the year as the closer at Double-A. "He will be closing somewhere, we're not sure where yet," manager Grady Little said. "He's really impressed us this spring. Outside of Juan Pierre, he's probably spent more time in that clubhouse than anybody. He arrives early and leaves late."
